Book Description
The fourth edition of the European Conference on Geostatistics for Environmental Applications (geoENV IV) took place in Barcelona, November 27-29, 2002. As a proof that there is an increasing interest in environmental issues in the geostatistical community, the conference attracted over 100 participants, mostly Europeans (up to 10 European countries were represented), but also from other countries in the world. Only 46 contributions, selected out of around 100 submitted papers, were invited to be presented orally during the conference. Additionally 30 authors were invited to present their work in poster format during a special session. All oral and poster contributors were invited to submit their work to be considered for publication in this Kluwer series. All papers underwent a reviewing process, which consisted on two reviewers for oral presentations and one reviewer for posters. The book opens with one keynote paper by Philippe Naveau. It is followed by 40 papers that correspond to those presented orally during the conference and accepted by the reviewers. These papers are classified according to their main topic. The list of topics show the diversity of the contributions and the fields of application. At the end of the book, summaries of up to 19 poster presentations are added. The geoENV conferences stress two issues, namely geostatistics and environmental applications. Thus, papers can be classified into two groups.

Book Description
This book contains selected contributions from the geoENV98 - the Second European Conference on Geostatistics for Environmental Sciences, held in Valencia, Spain in November 1998. This second book of the geoENV series illustrates the developments on geostatistics as applied to the environmental sciences which have occurred during the past two years. It also presents practical applications which will be of interest to both researchers and practitioners. The book starts with three keynote papers on ecology, climatology and soil science, followed by forty-three contributions. The contents of the book are eminently practical. The objective of the editors was to compile a set of papers in which the reader could perceive how geostatistics is applied within the environmental sciences. A few selected theoretical contributions are also included. The papers are organized in the following seven main areas Air pollution Climatology Ecology Hydrogeology Soil Science Theory Other applications presenting applications varying from particle matter analysis, noise exposure sampling, space-time modeling of ozone levels, downscaling of precipitation, kriging with categorical external drift, analysis of fish abundance, combining variograms and radio-telemetry in ecology, kriging radionuclide deposition, mapping of soil contamination, network design for soil monitoring, inverse modeling in hydrogeology, groundwater transport modeling, coastal evolution mapping to spatial modeling of cancer ratios. Audience: This publication will be of great interest and practical value to geostatisticians working both in academia and in industry.

Book Description
In an age of unprecedented proliferation of data from disparate sources the urgency is to create efficient methodologies that can optimise data combinations and at the same time solve increasingly complex application problems. Integration of GIS and Remote Sensing explores the tremendous potential that lies along the interface between GIS and remote sensing for activating interoperable databases and instigating information interchange. It concentrates on the rigorous and meticulous aspects of analytical data matching and thematic compatibility - the true roots of all branches of GIS/remote sensing applications. However closer harmonization is tempered by numerous technical and institutional issues, including scale incompatibility, measurement disparities, and the inescapable notion that data from GIS and remote sensing essentially represent diametrically opposing conceptual views of reality. The first part of the book defines and characterises GIS and remote sensing and presents the reader with an awareness of the many scale, taxonomical and analytical problems when attempting integration. The second part of the book moves on to demonstrate the benefits and costs of integration across a number of human and environmental applications. This book is an invaluable reference for students and professionals dealing not only with GIS and remote sensing, but also computer science, civil engineering, environmental science and urban planning within the academic, governmental and commercial/business sectors.

Book Description
Continuing in the footsteps of the pioneering first edition, Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing, Second Edition explores the most up-to-date signal and image processing methods for dealing with remote sensing problems. Although most data from satellites are in image form, signal processing can contribute significantly in extracting information from remotely sensed waveforms or time series data. This book combines both, providing a unique balance between the role of signal processing and image processing. Featuring contributions from worldwide experts, this book continues to emphasize mathematical approaches. Not limited to satellite data, it also considers signals and images from hydroacoustic, seismic, microwave, and other sensors. Chapters cover important topics in signal and image processing and discuss techniques for dealing with remote sensing problems. Each chapter offers an introduction to the topic before delving into research results, making the book accessible to a broad audience. This second edition reflects the considerable advances that have occurred in the field, with 23 of 27 chapters being new or entirely rewritten. Coverage includes new mathematical developments such as compressive sensing, empirical mode decomposition, and sparse representation, as well as new component analysis methods such as non-negative matrix and tensor factorization. The book also presents new experimental results on SAR and hyperspectral image processing. The emphasis is on mathematical techniques that will far outlast the rapidly changing sensor, software, and hardware technologies. Written for industrial and academic researchers and graduate students alike, this book helps readers connect the "dots" in image and signal processing. New in This Edition The second edition includes four chapters from the first edition, plus 23 new or entirely rewritten chapters, and 190 new figures. New topics covered include: Compressive sensing The mixed pixel problem with hyperspectral images Hyperspectral image (HSI) target detection and classification based on sparse representation An ISAR technique for refocusing moving targets in SAR images Empirical mode decomposition for signal processing Feature extraction for classification of remote sensing signals and images Active learning methods in classification of remote sensing images Signal subspace identification of hyperspectral data Wavelet-based multi/hyperspectral image restoration and fusion The second edition is not intended to replace the first edition entirely and readers are encouraged to read both editions of the book for a more complete picture of signal and image processing in remote sensing. See Signal and Image Processing for Remote Sensing (CRC Press 2006).

Book Description
The aim of this book is to bring together a series of contributions from experts in the field to cover the major aspects of the application of geostatistics in precision agriculture. The focus will not be on theory, although there is a need for some theory to set the methods in their appropriate context. The subject areas identified and the authors selected have applied the methods in a precision agriculture framework. The papers will reflect the wide range of methods available and how they can be applied practically in the context of precision agriculture. This book is likely to have more impact as it becomes increasingly possible to obtain data cheaply and more farmers use onboard digital maps of soil and crops to manage their land. It might also stimulate more software development for geostatistics in PA.

Book Description
Subpixel mapping is a technology that generates a fine resolution land cover map from coarse resolution fractional images by predicting the spatial locations of different land cover classes at the subpixel scale. This book provides readers with a complete overview of subpixel image processing methods, basic principles, and different subpixel mapping techniques based on single or multi-shift remote sensing images. Step-by-step procedures, experimental contents, and result analyses are explained clearly at the end of each chapter. Real-life applications are a great resource for understanding how and where to use subpixel mapping when dealing with different remote sensing imaging data. This book will be of interest to undergraduate and graduate students, majoring in remote sensing, surveying, mapping, and signal and information processing in universities and colleges, and it can also be used by professionals and researchers at different levels in related fields.
