Book Description
A Navy ship fights to survive an inexplicable event in this action-packed Bermuda Triangle thriller . . . Every year, all across the planet, people simply vanish, never to be seen again. Some areas of the world are well known for this phenomenon—like the area that would become known as the Bermuda Triangle after the famed Flight 19 incident off the Florida coast in 1945. Now, in the present day, an unexplainable event has occurred in the same area—an event that cannot be ignored by the military. The Navy ship Eclipse and its crew are sent to investigate, but after several days come up empty. Then, two days before the planned return to port, the event reoccurs, and the Eclipse is caught up in something it cannot escape. The ship and its crew suddenly find themselves completely isolated, all communication lost, surrounded by a terribly hostile environment where each day is a struggle to survive—in this intense, fast-paced novel of self-reliance, mystery, and discovery.

Book Description
This study traces the connection of infinity and Levinasian ethics in 21st-century fiction. It tackles the paradox of how infinity can be (re-)presented in the finite space between the covers of a book and finds an answer that combines conceptual metaphor theory with concepts from classical narratology and beyond, such as mise en abyme, textual circularity, intertextuality or omniscient narration. It argues that texts with such structures may be conceptualised as infinite via Lakoff and Núñez’s Basic Metaphor of Infinity. The catachrestic transfer of infinity from structure to text means that the texts themselves are understood to be infinite. Taking its cue from the central role of the infinite in Emmanuel Levinas’s ethics, the function of such ‘fictions of infinity’ turns out to be ethical: infinite textuality disrupts reading patterns and calls into question the reader’s spontaneity to interpret. This hypothesis is put to the test in detailed readings of four 21st-century novels, David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas, Jeanette Winterson’s The Stone Gods, Ian McEwan’s Saturday and John Banville’s The Infinities. This book thus combines ethical criticism with structural aesthetics to uncover ethical potential in fiction.

Book Description
Augmented and virtual reality are media innovations with specific characteristics. They create immersion in the user, as the user is immersed in the medium and its 360° environment. To successfully develop content and applications for AR and VR, psychological effects, the specifics of the 360° environment, the story, and the way the media is used must be aligned with the needs and experiences of the user. Content producers face novel challenges in content development, method selection, teamwork, and the overall production process of AR and VR experiences. The book introduces readers to the characteristics of immersive media and provides scientific evidence and practical tips to help them produce high-quality, user-centric content for immersive media. The scientifically derived success factors in the form of checklists are a guide and an ideal basis for standardizing the production process and further developing one's own projects. This book is a translation of the original German 1st edition Medieninnovationen AR und VR by Elle Langer, published by Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature in 2020. The translation was done with the help of artificial intelligence (machine translation by the service DeepL.com). A subsequent human revision was done primarily in terms of content, so that the book will read stylistically differently from a conventional translation. Springer Nature works continuously to further the development of tools for the production of books and on the related technologies to support the authors.

Book Description
Psychic investigators have long been intrigued by the question of the existence of Elemental Spirits. Is it possible that Beings of incredible age wander unseen through the wild, lonely deserts, and drift above the peaks of barren, desolate mountains? Is there any connection between such speculation and the legends of ancient mythology? Could it be that the djinn and devas of India are only other interpretations of the same inexplicable phenomena? Man feels that he has progressed beyond magic and even the most rational of civilised religions are undergoing periods of theological revolution and fundamental re-appraisal in the mid-60s. But what if an Elemental Spirit invaded the safety and comfort of everyday life? What if something over than mankind burst like a tornado into the security of ordered human society? Could the logic and science of the Twentieth Century defeat the terrifying power of a thing which was alive yet not alive, dead yet undying?

Book Description
Since the time of the Greek philosopher Zeno (fifth century BCE), our faculty of analytic understanding has failed to comprehend motion through the ages. The reason is the paradox or contradiction associated with motion. One fundamental contradiction is the conflict between the finite body and the infinite divisibility of the unit distance ab. Indeed, how is it possible to move from a to b if we must first pass through an infinite series of sub-distances in one instant? How can we traverse an unlimited series—a series without limit—yet reach its limit? Because the heart of the problem is the conflict between the finite and the infinite, its solution depends on reconciling this contradiction and transforming this reconciliation into the founding principle of motion. Having accomplished these two things, this work investigates the sweeping consequences they have regarding the geometric form of the physical universe, the Aristotelian ontology of the physical body, the nature of our finite brain, the finite analytic paradigm of empirical science and the meaning of our technological acceleration. This book will appeal to a wide range of readers with interests in the logical mechanics of the physical universe, the hidden powers of our finite brain, and the utility of robots in the future. Although some of the presentation requires the understanding of elementary mathematical equations, the argument is conducted at the deepest level: that of principles. This approach enables readers to follow the book’s reasoning without technical training on the subject.

Book Description
In a cosmos where the physical constants of nature are fine tuned to unimaginable precision to permit the existence of life, the giant US/Chinese radio telescope on the far side of the moon detects no technological civilizations. Why? Fantasies of space travel to the stars and cheap limitless energy have, by the mid-21st century, proven to be just that. Fantasies. Upon this stage appears an American Indian woman in the grip of a delusion that her son is Quetzalcoatl, an ancient Meso-American God whom she has pursued in devotion across the centuries. A teacher at the shabby Apache Indian reservation elementary school recognizes the boy as probably the greatest mathematical genius in human history. A shaman senses in the man the reality of myth and fulfillment of ancient prophecy. None comprehend the staggering dimensions of his true destiny. The Light is a psychedelic adventure of a genius who must choose between surrender to delusion, or freedom from superstition and madness to fall in love and live his own life as the greatest particle physicist of his age. In so doing he unleashes forces that give substance to ancient myths and challenge the limits of human imagination.

He can create things out of his thoughts, making millions of dollars with new technology. He could control the world if he only realized it. The Infinity Project is only on loan to him, and he better make the best use of the clock as it is winding down. When it stops, so does absolute choice. Or does it?
