Book Description
The amount of firewood produced by the annual prening of coffee bushes was determined in a total of 57 sample plots in the commercial coffee plantations of CATIE, Turrialba, Costa Rica. The yield ranged from 121 to 1644 kg (ovendry)/ha for plantations with less than 3800 coffee bushes/ha and varied from 288 to 2904 kg/ha for coffee plantations with a density of more than 3800 coffee bushes/ha; the overall average was 1111 kg of ovendry firewood per hectare. The coffee wood density was 0.58. A correlation was found between firewwood yield and pruning intensity.
