Allen was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and currently lives in Northern, Kentucky. Although his past performances were centered around playing in rooms with Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and several of James Brown's musicians, he still performs gospel jazz and some gospel hymns, as well as other genres.
