These were first used in England in 1898, in Dent's First French Book; at the present day they are to be found in almost every French course, and also in books for the teaching of English, German, Spanish, and Latin. The number of teachers who rely on imitation only is decreasing, and the results obtained are steadily becoming more satisfactory.
