Book Description
Life as a freelancer is hard. Doubly so when your job is kicking ass, taking names, and saving innocent lives from horrifying monsters. It's been a month since Mazik, Gavi, and Raedren-disaffected wage slaves turned magick-slinging adventurers-put a stop to the Cult of Amougourest and saved the city of Houk. You would think slaying a living god would be enough to make their new careers easy, with accolades all around and quests coming in without end. You would, of course, be wrong. The guilds are rejecting them. Quest givers won't listen to them. Their newfound fame is soon forgotten. If they're going to get their careers off the ground, they're going to have to work hard-and there are no big, flashy quests to help them this time. From a high-stakes tournament and an orck invasion to a worker's revolt and a mystery in a hidden village, follow these three friends as they travel across the continent, saving lives, vanquishing villains, and building their professional reputations. Not all adventures are glamorous, but it's the small jobs upon which a freelancing life is built. FREELANCE HEROICS is the sequel to WAGE SLAVE REBELLION, and Book 2 in the exciting FIRESIGN series. It's medieval sword & sorcery meets urban high fantasy, in a series of adventures about making your own way in the world, never giving up, and searching for true love as only a hopeless romantic can. WHO SHOULDN'T READ THIS BOOK: Anyone who doesn't enjoy stories with drinking, cussing, fighting, or killing likely won't enjoy this book. The main characters are adults, and they live in a dangerous world; they act accordingly. Anyone who prefers their books serious or grimdark may be disappointed. This book has adult themes and situations, but above all else it's intended to be fun. If that doesn't sound like something you would enjoy, this book may not be for you. WHO SHOULD READ THIS BOOK: Anyone looking for an action-packed, fun-filled fantasy adventure. If you enjoy friendly banter, thrilling heroics, and tons of explosions, this book is for you. If you like stories with a certain lightness of tone which eschew angst in favor of punching problems in the face, this book is definitely for you. And if you like big, exciting fantasy series with rising stakes and beloved characters you can revisit time and time again, make sure you've read WAGE SLAVE REBELLION and then dive right in. Stuck in the Astral with You
Author: J.S. Morin
Publisher: Magical Scrivener Press
ISBN: 1643551094
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 170
Book Description
It may not be healthy, or particularly tasty, but it’s reasonably affordable and Earthlings LOVE it! Tanny and Esper’s rebel syndicate needs to hit the Ruckers hard and where it hurts: in the finances. They decide on a target, one that most of the galaxy is blissfully unaware is owned by a vicious criminal gang: Friendli Foods. Purveyors of the Milky Way’s favorite junk foods, they make shipments to Earth on a megafreighter large enough to feed billions. Tanny has a plan to hijack it. Meanwhile, Esper embarks on a mission to ensure that the rebels aren’t blamed for the hijacking. They need a patsy, and what better way to set one up than to replace a mid-level lieutenant in the Rucker organization with a mole. It’ll be up to Esper to convince a bunch of hardened killers that she’s one of them—and to turn them against their own people. Stuck in the Astral with You is the fourteenth mission of Black Ocean: Mercy for Hire. Set in the Black Ocean Universe, it continues the saga of the galaxy's sweetest bounty hunter and her loyal sidekick (who is NOT a dog!) and introduces a colorful cast for new and returning readers alike. Fans of vigilante justice and heroes who exemplify the word will love this series.

Xenophon’s ›Anabasis‹ and its Reception
Author: Tim Rood
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG
ISBN: 3110793482
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 577
Book Description
This volume constitutes the first large-scale collaborative reflection on Xenophon’s Anabasis, gathering experts on Greek historiography and Xenophon. It is structured in three sections: the first section provides a linear reading of the Anabasis through chapters on select episodes (from Book 1 through Book 7), including the opening, Cyrus’ characterisation, the meeting of Socrates and Xenophon, Xenophon’s leadership, the marches through Armenia and along the Black Sea coast and the service under Seuthes in Thrace. The second section offers an in-depth exploration of hitherto overlooked recurrent themes. Based on new approaches and scholarly trends, it focuses on topics such as the concept of friendship, the speeches of characters other than Xenophon, the suffering of the human body, the role of rumour and misrepresentation, and the depiction of emotions. The third section offers a more thorough investigation of the manifold reception of this work (in Antiquity, Byzantium, Renaissance, modern period, in cinema studies and illustrations). Finally, in acknowledgement of the Anabasis’ long history as a pedagogical text, the volume contains an envoi on the importance and benefits of teaching Xenophon and the Anabasis, more specifically.

Heroic
Author: Mark Pasnik
Publisher: The Monacelli Press, LLC
ISBN: 1580934242
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 337
Book Description
Often problematically labeled as “Brutalist” architecture, the concrete buildings that transformed Boston during 1960s and 1970s were conceived with progressive-minded intentions by some of the world’s most influential designers, including Marcel Breuer, Le Corbusier, I. M. Pei, Henry Cobb, Araldo Cossutta, Gerhard Kallmann and Michael McKinnell, Paul Rudolph, Josep Lluís Sert, and The Architects Collaborative. As a worldwide phenomenon, building with concrete represents one of the major architectural movements of the postwar years, but in Boston it was deployed in more numerous and diverse civic, cultural, and academic projects than in any other major U.S. city. After decades of stagnation and corrupt leadership, public investment in Boston in the 1960s catalyzed enormous growth, resulting in a generation of bold buildings that shared a vocabulary of concrete modernism. The period from the 1960 arrival of Edward J. Logue as the powerful and often controversial director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority to the reopening of Quincy Market in 1976 saw Boston as an urban laboratory for the exploration of concrete’s structural and sculptural qualities. What emerged was a vision for the city’s widespread revitalization often referred to as the “New Boston.” Today, when concrete buildings across the nation are in danger of insensitive renovation or demolition, Heroic presents the concrete structures that defined Boston during this remarkable period—from the well-known (Boston City Hall, New England Aquarium, and cornerstones of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University) to the already lost (Mary Otis Stevens and Thomas F. McNulty’s concrete Lincoln House and Studio; Sert, Jackson & Associates’ Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School)—with hundreds of images; essays by architectural historians Joan Ockman, Lizabeth Cohen, Keith N. Morgan, and Douglass Shand-Tucci; and interviews with a number of the architects themselves. The product of 8 years of research and advocacy, Heroic surveys the intentions and aspirations of this period and considers anew its legacies—both troubled and inspired.
