Book Description
To reclaim the American Badlands from Soviet invasion, fighter pilot Hunter Hawk trades in his F-16 for a battle-ready locomotive. World War III ended with a Soviet nuclear attack that shattered the United States into fragments. Led by Major Hawk Hunter, what remained of the country’s armed forces fought off the Red Army invasion, and they have spent years rebuilding their fragmented nation. Only one territory was left deserted: the Southwest, now known as the Badlands. In order to reestablish the overland route between the eastern and western regions, a train of modern pioneers is sent across the desert. The train makes it safely, but when it arrives in Los Angeles, every passenger on board has vanished. To bring the fight to the bandits, Hunter designs his own train—a super-fortress on rails that will make the country safe again. But the new Wild West is no place for a lawman, and Hunter will need more than a six-gun to survive. Freedom Express is the seventh book of the Wingman series, which also includes Wingman and The Circle War.

Freedom Made Manifest
Author: Peter Joseph Fritz
Publisher: Catholic University of America Press
ISBN: 0813231191
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 297
Book Description
Freedom Made Manifest explicates Rahner’s theology of freedom by elucidating its configuration and sources. Much of its inquiry centers on the fundamental option: each human person’s eternal decision made, paradoxically, in time, as a definitive answer to God’s personally-tailored call to salvation. This idea stems from three principal sources: Catholic conversations with transcendental-idealist philosophy, penitential theology and practice, and Ignatian spirituality. Rahner’s unique redeployment of these sources inflects the fundamental option with theologies of concupiscence, mercy and forgiveness (especially as ecclesially mediated), and devotion to Jesus Christ. Awareness of these inflections can show how Rahner’s theology of freedom may assist in theological reflection on freedom’s susceptibility to injury and trauma.

Read the Cultural Other
Author: Shi-xu
Publisher: Walter de Gruyter
ISBN: 3110199785
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 257
Book Description
Read the Cultural Other contains studies on non-Western discourse. It has two principal aims. Firstly, it argues that the study of non-Western, non-White, and Third-World discourses should become a legitimate, necessary, and routine part of international discourse scholarship. Hitherto, non-Western, non-White, and Third-Word discourses have been relegated and marginalized to a 'local', 'particular', or 'other' place in (or, one might argue, outside) the mainstream. To reclaim their place, the book deconstructs the rhetoric of universalism and the continued preoccupation with Western discourse in the profession, and stresses the cultural nature of discourse, both ordinary and disciplinary, as it outlines a culturally pluralist vision. Secondly, in order to take the multicultural view seriously, it explores the complexity, diversity, and forms of otherness of non-Western discourse by examining the case of China and Hong Kong's discourses of the decolonization of the latter. Far too often, non-Western discourse has been stereotyped as externally discrete, internally homogeneous, and formally containable within a 'universal', 'general', or 'integrated' model. The present work focuses on China and Hong Kong's discourses, which have been marginalized by their Western counterparts. Through culturally eclectic linguistic analysis and local cultural analysis, it identifies and highlights the specific ways of speaking of China and Hong Kong - their concepts, concerns, aspirations, resistance, verbal strategies, etc. - with respect to similar or different issues. The culturally pluralist view and analytical practice proffered here call for a radical cultural change in international scholarship on language, communication, and discourse.
