Excerpt from Thirty-Second Report, Cleveland Public Library: September 1st, 1899, to December 31st, 1900 Gentlemen - The Public Library Board of the City of Cleveland has had the honor of submitting to you each year since the library was entrusted to its charge, an annual report for the year closing August 31, the last one submitted being the 315t annual report, and covering the year ending August 31, 1899. In order to conform with other depart ments of the city and with the prevailing practice in libra ries, the Library Board has decided to make its year end with the calendar year. I have the honor to submit to you therefore the following brief report for the four months ending December 31, 1899. There were in the library and its various branches on the first day of September, 1899, volumes; there were added by purchase and gift during the period of four months from September 1 to December 31, 7, 316 volumes. There were issued for home use volumes, for refer ence use volumes, and there were visitors to the reference departments of the library during the same period. Further details as to the condition of the library, the classes of books purchased and circulated, the expenditures and other matters, will be prepared for your information and presented with the annual report for the current year. Excerpt from Thirty Eighth Annual Report, 1889 As to the relation of the Library to the public schools, your committee suggest to the Trustees that the School Committee be requested to furnish to the Library, free of charge, a complete set of all the books and publications provided by them for the use of scholars in the public schools. Any report which the committee could make on the Patent-room Department Of the Library for 1889 would be but a repetition of the very full one printed last year; and as the suggestions made at that time, although approved by the Trustees, cannot be carried out for want of funds, we think it advisable to report merely, that the department is being developed slowly, according to the lines laid out at that time.
