Book Description
The day after Beethoven’s death on March 26, 1827, his friends found, in a secret drawer of his desk, together with his will and two miniature portraits of two young women, a ten-page letter dated “July 6 in the morning,” that began with the intriguing incantation “My angel, my all, myself.” It included no address and no name of the addressee, except for the now famous my immortal beloved hyperbole, containing passionate declarations of love and was signed, “L., forever yours, forever mine, forever us.” Thus was born a biographical mystery of the artistic canon of the Western World, second only in tantalizing appeal to the identity of the person signing as William Shakespeare. Two hundred years later, biographers still have not come to a consensus on the mystery. Of the many candidates advanced in the meantime, only a few have survived in biographical literature. Stefan Romanó’s book brings the controversy to a close. It clarifies the existing evidence that has often been muddled, and at times reached the absurd, during almost two centuries of scholarly speculations. He also adds some new insights into the analysis of the evidence, thus making it easier for readers to draw their own conclusions, hopefully not different from his, namely, that only one of the candidates proposed so far fits the evidence. He also provides a substantially modified scenario from the one advanced by her proponents. Born in Romania during WWII and immigrated to the U.S.A. in 1989, Stefan Romanó is not a musician nor a musicologist. He is an engineer by formation, a man of exactitude and clear and logical thinking, qualities that served him thoroughly when he became an amateur Beethoven scholar. A long-time member of American Beethoven Society and of its French counterpart, Association Beethoven France et Francophonie, he has published in their professional journals, bringing valuable contributions to understanding Beethoven’s life and creation. His “Ending the Fifth” article answered a question that had puzzled musicians, scholars and music lovers alike for two hundred years: why does Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony end with that apparently interminable series of C major chords? He took up the pen by force of circumstance for his Beethoven’s Immortal Beloved when he realized that all the proposed solutions to the mystery relied on wild speculation and sometimes even falsifying the existing evidence.

Book Description
The individual character of Kingdom of Kush has often been overshadowed by the overwhelming cultural presence of its neighbour Egypt. This handbook in our series "Handbuch der Orientalistik/Handbook of Oriental Studies" for the first time presents a comprehensive survey of the rich textual, archaeological and art historical evidence for this Middle Nile Region Kingdom of Kush. Basing itself both on the evidence and scholarly literature, this work discusses the emergence of the native state of Kush (after the Pharaonic domination in the 11th century B.C.), the rule of the Kings of Kush in Egypt (c. 760-656) and the intellectual foundations and political history of the Kingdom in the Napatan (7th - 3rd centuries) and Meroitic (3rd century B.C. - 4th century A.D.) periods.

Book Description
A Christian mystical text containing the revelation made to a young girl in a Benedictine monastery in the mountains of Austria in 1974. It is a revelation of the extraordinary quality of the love of God communicated, not through light and joy, but through a dark and powerful suffering, which she identified as the mystery of Christs cross. The original manuscript was faithfully written down as a direct record of this experience. It takes the form of a dialogue or interaction between God as the Lover of the soul, and Maria as His Beloved. A major theme is the struggle of the Beloved to overcome the Yes buts of human nature in order to be able to say a perfect Yes to her Maker. Each dialogue moves through suffering and miscomprehension towards final happiness and liberation, prefiguring the change from death to resurrection. The manuscript remained a puzzle to its writer for eighteen years, at which point she gained an insight into the moment of self-yielding which transforms the suffering into bliss. It was then, whilst staying in an Austrian farmhouse on a mountain-side, that she wrote the poetry which re-interprets the text, as a hymn to the Star-Love of ecstatic intensity. Over thirty years after the original event, realising the experience may also have meaning for others, the writer worked on the manuscripts. During a period of deep reflection at her home in Scotland, she then wrote the commentaries. She hopes that this book, a lifetimes endeavour, may prove enlightening to others as to the nature of Gods love.

Two of the greatest fears in life come in the form of questions we often ask ourselves but rarely say out loud: “Am I okay?” and “Do you love me?” The answer the Gospel gives us is both surprising and just what we need to hear: “No, you are not okay, and, yes, I love you.” Jesus holds these two truths about us together, and this is the good news we desperately need.
