Book Description
With help from sports psychology researcher Jackson, Csikszentmihalyi (human behavior, U. of Chicago) pares down his now-famous concept of flow to basic explanations and self-assessment exercises. Emphasis is on achieving a balance between challenges and skills, setting goals, taking advantage of feedback, focusing on the present, controlling the controllables, and having fun. Ocular Blood Flow in Glaucoma
Author: Robert N. Weinreb
Publisher: Kugler Publications
ISBN: 9062992226
Category : Glaucoma
Languages : en
Pages : 177
Book Description
This is the sixth World Glaucoma Association Consensus. The relationship between ocular blood flow and glaucoma has been discussed for more than a century, and still it uniformly fuels debates at glaucoma meetings throughout the world. Clearly, the results of this report will have broad and significant impact on glaucoma research and clinical practice. The global faculty, consisting of leading authorities on the scientific and clinical aspects of ocular blood flow, have met in Fort Lauderdale on May 2, 2009 to discuss the reports and refine the consensus statements.

A Note on Secondary Flow in Rotating Radial Channels
Author: James J. Kramer
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aeronautics
Languages : en
Pages : 42
Book Description
A general vector differential equation for the vorticity component parallel to a streamline is derived for steady, nonviscous and incompressible flow in a rotating system. This equation is then simplified by restricting it to rotating radial channels and by making further simplifying assumptions. This simplified equation is used to solve for the secondary vorticity, the vorticity component parallel to the streamline, in three special cases involving different streamtube geometries; the results are presented in a series of figures. The secondary vorticity is show to decrease with decreased absolute angular velocity of the fluid, decreased inlet total-pressure gradient, decreased length of relative flow path, and increased velocity.

Cardiac Output and Regional Flow in Health and Disease
Author: A-M. Salmasi
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401118485
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 538
Book Description
Cardiac output has always been a subject of interest to both clinicians and researchers in different branches of medicine and surgery. In the last decade more attention has also been paid to its application in pediatrics, neonatology, fetal medicine and pregnancy. Better understanding of the peripheral circulation has provided more insight into the patholophysiology of different diseases. Many cardiac and non-cardiac disorders affect cardiac outputs. Monitoring of the changes in cardiac output is also important in the acutely ill patient. There are several methods to measure cardiac output, each with advantages and pitfalls. This book deals with all relevant aspects of cardiac output in eight parts: part one describes the methods of measuring cardiac output and a comparison between the catheterisation based and the noninvasive techniques, while part two describes the changes in cardiac output due to physiological causes. Part three describes cardiac output in cardiac diseases and systemic hypertension. Cardiac output in acutely ill patients is discussed in part four. Effect of cardiac medications, temporary atrial pacing, permanent pacing, pharmacologic stress testing and anesthesia are covered in detail in part six, while changes in cardiac output in noncardiac diseases are described in part seven. Finally great attention has been paid in part eight to the regional circulation including cerebral, coronary, skeletal and splanchnic circulations. A separate chapter discusses in detail the dynamics of blood flow. This book will be useful both to the cardiologists as well as to physicians in other fields of surgery and medicine and to their trainees. Readers will find this book an interesting and a useful reference on the topic of cardiac output.

Stochastic Methods for Flow in Porous Media
Author: Dongxiao Zhang
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080517773
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 371
Book Description
Stochastic Methods for Flow in Porous Media: Coping with Uncertainties explores fluid flow in complex geologic environments. The parameterization of uncertainty into flow models is important for managing water resources, preserving subsurface water quality, storing energy and wastes, and improving the safety and economics of extracting subsurface mineral and energy resources. This volume systematically introduces a number of stochastic methods used by researchers in the community in a tutorial way and presents methodologies for spatially and temporally stationary as well as nonstationary flows. The author compiles a number of well-known results and useful formulae and includes exercises at the end of each chapter. - Balanced viewpoint of several stochastic methods, including Greens' function, perturbative expansion, spectral, Feynman diagram, adjoint state, Monte Carlo simulation, and renormalization group methods - Tutorial style of presentation will facilitate use by readers without a prior in-depth knowledge of Stochastic processes - Practical examples throughout the text - Exercises at the end of each chapter reinforce specific concepts and techniques - For the reader who is interested in hands-on experience, a number of computer codes are included and discussed
