Book Description
"Ye are twenty-five cards. Become twenty-five devils Enter into the body, into the blood, into the soul ." So begins a nineteenth century Italian charm making use of a small deck of playing cards. This brief-but-richly drawn book explores the practice of divination by playing cards-known as cartomancy. It reveals the "secrets in plain sight" which hide within the pips, kings, queens, and jokers of a standard deck. Explore one method of divination in-depth as you meet the "fifty-four devils"-the symbolic spirits of each card-and learn about invoking ancestral blessings for card readings, the folklore of playing cards, and how to relate fairy tales to a spread along the way. In this Tenth Anniversary Edition of Fifty-four Devils, the author expands the original guide to playing card cartomancy while adding reflections and refinements drawn from an additional decade of practice and research. The history of cartomancy receives more attention, as do some of the sample readings that provide insight into how to best suit the needs of each querent. Additionally, new sections on incorporating playing cards into spellwork, using them in conjunction with other systems such as Tarot, and even designing sigils based on cards expand the scope of cartomancy within the pages. The appendices also include new materials and commentary focused on card-reading folklore. If you are discovering the book for the first time or reading for the new material, the Tenth Anniversary Edition of Fifty-four Devils waits for you to come and meet its impish pack of spirits and find all the joys and mysteries cartomancy has to offer.

Speed Learning Cartomancy Fortune Telling with Playing Cards

Book Description
"Get this book, learn the system, do cool readings." - David Numen "Julian's work is the best of the bunch in these genres. I have scoured book stores. I only learn from his books and ideas." - John Cesta My latest ebook which teaches the fundamentals of cartomancy is now ready for release. It's similar to my other books in that it's aimed at complete beginners as well as people who've started learning this particular reading discipline but then given up for one reason or another. Like my other books I use a no nonsense approach with lots of memory tips, insights, reviews and exercises over ninety pages to help you get up to speed as quickly as possible and the whole experience is extremely 'hands on'. In fact part of the process involves scribbling on the cards a lot to make sure the basics are implanted in your mind as you go. I'm really hoping that this new book gets some of you on the road to giving proper and interesting readings with cards instead of just thinking about it. There's a lot more information hidden in those fifty-two bits of paper than you probably realise! REVIEWS "I got this yesterday and have started the study and have to say it's quite brilliant. I've read cards of one form or another for 20 years after learning initially from the Joe Riding course but for various reasons I was looking for something to help me sharpen my skills - and this more than does the trick. For anyone who might feel that they'd rather this was on tarot I think it's worth pointing out that when I started doing readings many moons ago a number of clients would tell me of this mystical sounding old man who read from "ordinary cards." It was clear that the impression given to these women was that reading ordinary cards was somehow more skillful and impressive than tarot cards (I guess the pictures on the cards might make it obvious to some astute clients that there are highly visible cues on the cards). Playing card readings rock - and playing cards predate tarot and are thus, in my book, purer and more mysterious than tarot." - David Numen "I purchased this ebook. What a great system. Always in the easily understood clear writing format you'd expect from Julian. This is of a quality you would expect to find in a book store. I have in the past purchased Julian's James Bond Cold Reading book and his Palm Reading book. For me this is one of the best. I find I am more in tune with numbers than the others. I always have a deck of cards and certainly the places I frequent there are cards as well. The fact that you can use a few cards, a few more to create a simple or more complex reading is terrific. Make it as long or short as you'd like. Julian's audio book (available for free from his site) is also top notch! Lots of valuable audio files to use while driving or sitting in a Doctor's office. Certainly worth the asking price. If you have any of Julian's other offerings you know what I mean. If you don't have any of Julian's other offerings don't hesitate. His metaphors and memory links make sense and they work." - John Cesta OTHER KINDLE BOOKS IN THE SPEED LEARNING SERIES BY JULIAN MOORE Speed Learning: Graphology - The Art Of Handwriting Analysis Speed Learning: The James Bond Cold Reading Coming Soon: Speed Learning: Palmistry - Palm Readings In Your Own Words

The Devil’s Dictionary
Author: Ambrose Bierce
Publisher: Standard Ebooks
ISBN:
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 341
Book Description
“Dictionary, n: A malevolent literary device for cramping the growth of a language and making it hard and inelastic. This dictionary, however, is a most useful work.” Bierce’s groundbreaking Devil’s Dictionary had a complex publication history. Started in the mid-1800s as an irregular column in Californian newspapers under various titles, he gradually refined the new-at-the-time idea of an irreverent set of glossary-like definitions. The final name, as we see it titled in this work, did not appear until an 1881 column published in the periodical The San Francisco Illustrated Wasp. There were no publications of the complete glossary in the 1800s. Not until 1906 did a portion of Bierce’s collection get published by Doubleday, under the name The Cynic’s Word Book—the publisher not wanting to use the word “Devil” in the title, to the great disappointment of the author. The 1906 word book only went from A to L, however, and the remainder was never released under the compromised title. In 1911 the Devil’s Dictionary as we know it was published in complete form as part of Bierce’s collected works (volume 7 of 12), including the remainder of the definitions from M to Z. It has been republished a number of times, including more recent efforts where older definitions from his columns that never made it into the original book were included. Due to the complex nature of copyright, some of those found definitions have unclear public domain status and were not included. This edition of the book includes, however, a set of definitions attributed to his one-and-only “Demon’s Dictionary” column, including Bierce’s classic definition of A: “the first letter in every properly constructed alphabet.” Bierce enjoyed “quoting” his pseudonyms in his work. Most of the poetry, dramatic scenes and stories in this book attributed to others were self-authored and do not exist outside of this work. This includes the prolific Father Gassalasca Jape, whom he thanks in the preface—“jape” of course having the definition: “a practical joke.” This book is a product of its time and must be approached as such. Many of the definitions hold up well today, but some might be considered less palatable by modern readers. Regardless, the book’s humorous style is a valuable snapshot of American culture from past centuries. This book is part of the Standard Ebooks project, which produces free public domain ebooks.

Climber's Guide to Devil's Lake
Author: Sven Olof Swartling
Publisher: Univ of Wisconsin Press
ISBN: 9780299145941
Category : Sports & Recreation
Languages : en
Pages : 260
Book Description
The new edition of Climber’s Guide to Devil’s Lake is your guide to the fractures, cracks, ledges, slabs, chimneys, and other rock formations of Devil’s Lake State Park, the most popular climbing spot in the Midwest. This bible for climbers locates and describes more than 1600 climbs. With more than 10,000 copies of the first edition in print, this handy volume remains the only comprehensive guide to climbing in the panoramic park located near Baraboo, Wisconsin. It describes many more climbs on recently acquired park land as well as in relatively unknown areas, encouraging exploration of new routes to decrease the overuse of, and damage to, the most popular areas. Major changes in the new edition include revisions of the hiking trail descriptions, the climbing safety and ethics sections, and the rating system, which has been changed from the National Climbing Classification System to the Yosemite Decimal System. A new chart compares these two systems to others. This edition is useful to climbers of all abilities and preferences, and the book’s excellent organization, along with fifty-nine new and revised diagrams, eleven maps, and twenty-two photographs, enable both novices and experts to locate challenging routes easily. Author “Olle” Swartling draws on his own forty years of climbing experience at Devil’s Lake and elsewhere, comments from other climbers, and information from out-of-print guidebooks to improve this edition, retaining the informative geologic and natural history of the Baraboo hills contributed by Patricia K. Armstrong.
