Book Description
Stay Safe in the City Here's the book that won't advise you to flee the city and set up a homestead to avoid potential disasters. With many other survival-planning resources emphasizing that approach, urban dwellers that plan to stay put in the city, no matter the circumstances, have been overlooked. Not only do 58 percent of Americans live in cities, but certain risks are higher in cities than elsewhere. Urban Emergency Survival Plan delivers a common-sense approach to urban survival planning rather than advocating that city survivalists need to figure out a way to grow an acre of food, raise goats, and build an underground bunker. The clearly outlined approach here will help you to reduce the risks inherent in disasters that occur in well-populated areas. Inside you'll find: • Packing lists for get-home bags, everyday carry items for adults and kids and bug-out bags • An overview of threats that face an urban area and instructions for planning safe travel during and after disasters, as well as how to plan a temporary escape • Instructions for sheltering in place at work • Chapters on food storage and water procurement in urban areas with emphasis on limited space and budget • A detailed chapter on security options in urban areas • A detailed chapter on sanitation, first aid and shelter • Ideas for how to respond and cooperate with government disaster plans • Photos of important survival gear Discover the skills you'll need to weather any storm, whether you live in an apartment, townhouse, condominium, single-family home or any other urban setting. With planning and practice, you'll gain the confidence to always feel safe in the city.

Book Description
Your electrical power fails due to a storm, terrorist attack, EMP or other catastrophe. Hyperinflation leads to an economic collapse and food and medical supplies stop flowing to the cities. A pandemic spreads death around the globe. These are not relatively localized disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, wild fires, ice storms or floods, where you know help is on the way and all you have to do is hunker down and tough it out. These are nationwide or perhaps global disasters that will disrupt food, energy and water supplies. Hospitals are overrun and government may well cease to function. The upshot being, no help is coming, at least soon and possibly never. What will you do to keep yourself and your family relatively secure? I ask you that, using the words "relatively secure" because you will not be able to keep anyone safe in such scenarios. No one living in or near a city will be safe. This book offers specific advice and instruction, as well as general guidelines you will have to tailor to your unique circumstances, to help you keep your family as relatively secure as possible. You will learn what to stock up on, what skills you should endeavor to acquire, and what actions you must take to give your family a chance at surviving the disaster and chaos that may strike at any time.If you live out in the country this book may be useful to you, but it is intended for those of us who live in or near cities. We don't have wells for water. We don't even usually have backup electrical power, or a large garden, or chickens. We are dependent on a centralized utility and food distribution network that can and does fail. To date those failures have been temporary, though some have gone on for weeks or months. Failures have been local or regional and folks living there knew help was coming from "outside." But what if help isn't coming? What if you have nowhere to go that is more safe and secure than your own home? What if bridges are down or highways clogged with stalled vehicles and you are forced to stay home? How would you provide for your family? How would you protect them?If you have ever entertained those questions, this is the book for you.

Book Description
Millions of Americans—perhaps the majority of the population—would die if the electrical grid went down for a significant period of time. And while this disturbing fact is well-known to Congress, it is also well-known to America's enemies. Little has been done to mitigate the threat. Iran, North Korea, terrorist groups, and others move forward in their capabilities to attack the power grid, and the United States today remains extremely vulnerable. Some individual Americans, known as preppers, have taken steps to prepare their families for such a disaster, but the real key to survival lies in small communities having a civil defense plan. A prepared community has a better chance of survival than a prepared individual. This book is about taking prepping to the next level, so that your town can be ready for any disaster, large or small. It is possible for a town to survive if the grid goes down long term. But only if a few of its citizens act now. This book is different from other books on prepping and emergency preparedness. Rather than focusing on individual survival, this book takes you through the steps to create a nonprofit civil defense organization which can help prepare your town for a worst-case national disaster. And in being prepared for a worst-case scenario, you and your town can be prepared for anything from a minor power outage to a hurricane to an electromagnetic pulse attack taking out the entire power grid.

Book Description
Investment has flooded back to cities because dense, walkable, mixed-use urban environments offer choices that support diverse dreams. Auto-oriented, single-use suburbs have a hard time competing. Suburban Remix brings together experts in planning, urban design, real estate development, and urban policy to demonstrate how suburbs can use growing demand for urban living to renew their appeal as places to live, work, play, and invest. The case studies and analysis show how compact new urban places are being created in suburbs to produce health, economic, and environmental benefits, and contribute to solving a growing equity crisis.

Book Description
NOTICE: Realistic Bug Out Bag, 2nd Edition: Prepared to Survive is now available. The 2nd edition is significantly revised, comprehensive, and updated at over 600 pages. Realistic Bug Out Bag by Max Cooper sets itself apart from many other similar books. This book covers the reality of bug out bags. Too many people solely focus on loading up their bag until the zippers are about to rip apart. Their bags are too full and way too heavy to travel on foot. You cannot assume that in a bug out situation you will be able to use your 4x4 and travel to your bug out location. Chances are gridlock or other road conditions will render your vehicle useless. You may have to travel on foot and you must have a bug out bag that you can realistically carry. Yet, many people have never stepped outside the comfort of their home and carried their bug out bag on their back. For these unprepared individuals failure is a very real reality. Realistic Bug Out Bag covers aspects that you need to know in order to bug out including a very useful "Bug Out Bag Assessment" which will provide you a good idea of how prepared you are to immediately bug out. This book is not about lists although some lists are included. It is about your decision making ability to know and understand the cost/benefit ratio of every piece of equipment that you decide to put into your bug out bag. Way too many individuals have their bug out bag stored in their home incorrectly believe that they are ready to bug out...but they are not. Read Realistic Bug Out Bag to find out why you are more than likely not prepared to bug out and how you can remedy your situation. Finding out that you are not adequately prepared during a bug out event is a preventable failure...this book is the prevention! This is a must have book for your preparedness resource library.

Book Description
Preparedness, Response and Recovery Considerations for Children and Families is the summary of a workshop convened in June, 2013 by the Institute of Medicine Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Catastrophic Events to discuss disaster preparedness, response, and resilience relative to the needs of children and families, including children with special health care needs. Traditional and non-traditional medical and public health stakeholders from across federal, state, and local government health care coalitions, community organizations, school districts, child care providers, hospitals, private health care providers, insurers, academia, and other partners in municipal planning met to review existing tools and frameworks that can be modified to include children's needs; identify child-serving partners and organizations that can be leveraged in planning to improve outcomes for children; highlight best practices in resilience and recovery strategies for children; and raise awareness of the need to integrate children's considerations throughout local and state emergency plans. Communities across the United States face the threat of emergencies and disasters almost every day, natural and man-made, urban and rural, large and small. Although children represent nearly 25 percent of the U.S. population, current state and local disaster preparedness plans often do not include specific considerations for children and families. The preparedness and resilience of communities related to children will require a systems framework for disaster preparedness across traditional and non-traditional medical and public health stakeholders, including community organizations, schools, and other partners in municipal planning. This report examines resilience strategies that lead to successful recovery in children after a disaster and discusses current approaches and interventions to improve recovery in children.
