Reports suggested that there has been an alarming increased in the pregnancy rate among st the youth of the Outjo district, the northwestern part of Namibia. No formal studies have been conducted that time to get a better understanding of this phenomenon, which was great concern to all stakeholders, social and health care. According to the annual report of the Outjo hospital 2009/2010, 36% of the pregnancies reported at the hospital were youth still at school (Namibian 2011). This cause negative health outcomes among the youth.Therefore a quantitative survey was conducted to assess factors hinders the use of contraception. The study population was young adults 18 to 24 years. A semi-structured validated questionnaire was utilized to collect data. Data was analyzed by using SPSS 19 software to generate frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The findings can contribute and play a significant role in developing new strategies by all stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and Education to approach non-adhere contraceptive use among the young adult population in an innovative ways and ultimately stem the tide against the high teenage pregnancies rate in Outjo distric

More than a quarter of pregnancies worldwide are unintended. Between 1995 and 2000, nearly 700,000 women died and many more experienced illness, injury, and disability as a result of unintended pregnancy. Children born from unplanned conception are at greater risk of low birth weight, of being abused, and of not receiving sufficient resources for healthy development. A wider range of contraceptive options is needed to address the changing needs of the populations of the world across the reproductive life cycle, but this unmet need has not been a major priority of the research community and pharmaceutical industry. New Frontiers in Contraceptive Research: A Blueprint for Action, a new report from the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, identifies priority areas for research to develop new contraceptives. The report highlights new technologies and approaches to biomedical research, including genomics and proteomics, which hold particular promise for developing new products. It also identifies impediments to drug development that must be addressed. While several factors including social norms, policies and some adolescent attributes have been associated with use of contraceptives in most developing countries (UNFPA 2003), the determinants of low use in Uganda are not well explored. This study therefore aimed to explore the factors influencing contraceptive use among adolescents in Uganda. The study used literature review and in depth telephone interviews to collect data. Several documents on adolescent sexual practices from Uganda were reviewed, including policy documents from the Ministry of Health (MoH). Data analysis was done using Dahlgren and Whitehead's (Dahlgren and Whitehead 1991) conceptual framework to demonstrate how individual, societal and policy factors impact on adolescent contraceptive use outcomes.The study therefore concludes that, unless policies, society norms and individual barriers of contraceptive use are addressed, low contraceptive use is more likely to continue in Uganda. Specifically also, there is need to train health workers in such a way that can remove their negative attitudes to the provision of contraceptives to adolescents.

Every year approximately 17,000 adolescents ages 15-19 become pregnant in New York City. Most of these pregnancies are unintended and only a small percent of adolescents use effective contraception, with wide disparities by race/ethnicity and poverty level. While many studies have identified factors associated with contraceptive use, most research has focused on individual level factors, with little attention to the contribution of the school environment to sexual risk behavior and contraceptive use. This study investigates the effect of school-level factors on contraceptive use among adolescents in NYC public high schools before and after controlling for individual-level factors, and whether this effect varies with race/ethnicity. Using a cross-sectional design, the NYC Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) individual-level datasets for 2007, 2009 and 2011 were linked to a school-level dataset. Variables were selected based on empirical findings on factors associated with sexual behaviors, including contraceptive use, by adolescents. The analytic sample included all YRBS respondents aged 14 or older who reported having sexual intercourse in the past three months and had complete responses to the YRBS questions on contraceptive use at last sex (N=8,054).
