Uranium and Nuclear Energy: 1981
Author: Sam Stuart
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 1483162095
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 417
Book Description
Uranium and Nuclear Energy: 1981 is a collection of 27 papers presented at the Sixth International Symposium on Uranium and Nuclear Energy, held by The Uranium Institute, London on September 2-4, 1981. This six-part volume represents a true cross-section of world opinion on nuclear matters. After briefly discussing the leading problems linked to world's energy and ideas concerning possible solutions, this book goes on presenting the Uranium Institute analysis on uranium supply and demand, the growth in stockpiles of natural and enriched uranium, and the effect of these stockpiles on the market for natural uranium. Part III examines the principles and applicability of the geological, geophysical, and geochemical uranium exploration techniques, while Part IV highlights the possibility of utilizing nuclear energy in a number of countries, with a particular emphasis on the involvement of public and the organizations in nuclear plant construction for project implementation. Part V considers the controversy in supply assurances in the nuclear field and the prospects of reaching new international consensus concerning uranium utilization. Part VI deals with the growing maturity of the nuclear industry, the nature of the world's energy crisis, and the plight of the developing countries in nuclear energy. This book will be of value to nuclear energy researchers and economists.

This Could Be Your Future
Author: Ross Fardon
Publisher: Xlibris Corporation
ISBN: 1479764787
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 392
Book Description
This is a book of a hundred stories and life lessons: crazy; beautiful; very serious. It is of a golden life and nine near-death encounters, moving between remote camps amidst poor indigenous folk, the salt of the Earth, and the glossy skyscrapers of our cities. Mineral exploration is a strange game. It is highest technology, big dollars, outback people and their aspirations, wonderful places, and flies, dirt, mud, budget cuts and enduring friendships. Remote projects keep explorers abroad in this beautiful world, but far from families. You have time and yearning on your hands, time to think and dream. When you reach executive ranks, you deal in public ideologies about mining, government and NGOs at all levels, billions of dollars, and changing whole regions around great mines for better more than for worse. This is the easily-written story of man and manager, major public policies, and many good folk across the world. Gravity, Magnetic and Electromagnetic Gradiometry
Author: Alexey V Veryaskin
Publisher: Morgan & Claypool Publishers
ISBN: 1681747006
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 148
Book Description
Gradiometry is a multidisciplinary area that combines theoretical and applied physics, ultra-low noise electronics, precision engineering, and advanced signal processing. All physical fields have spatial gradients that fall with distance from their sources more rapidly than the field strength itself. This makes the gradient measurements more difficult. However, there has been a considerable investment, both in terms of time and money, into the development of various types of gradiometers driven by the extremely valuable type of information that is contained in gradients. Applications include the search for oil, gas, and mineral resources, GPS-free navigation, defence, space missions, medical research, and some other applications. The author describes gravity gradiometers, magnetic gradiometers, and electromagnetic (EM) gradiometers. The first two types do not require any active sources of the primary physical fields whose gradients are measured, such as gravity field and ambient magnetic field. EM gradiometers do require a primary EM field, pulsed, or sinusoidal, which propagates through media and creates a secondary EM field. The latter one contains information about the non uniformness of electromagnetically active media such as conductivity and magnetic permeability contrasts. These anomalies are the boundaries of mineral deposits, oil and gas traps, underground water reserves, buried artifacts, unexploded ordnance (UXO), nuclear submarines, and even cancerous human tissue. This book provides readers with a comprehensive introduction, history, potential applications, and current developments in relation to some of the most advanced technologies in the 21st Century. Most of the developments are strictly controlled by Defence Export Control rules and regulations, introduced in all developed countries that typically require permission to transfer relevant information from one country to another. The book is based on the materials that have been available in public domain such as scientific journals, conferences, extended abstracts, and online presentations. In addition, medical applications of EM gradiometers are exempt from any control, and some new results relevant to breast cancer early detection research are published in this book for the first time.
