Experimental Investigation of Multiple Jet Impingement Flows Applicable to VTOL Aircraft in Ground Effect
Author: William G Hill (Jr)
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 54
Book Description
One of the critical areas for the design of VTOL aircraft is the special aerodynamic interactions that occur during operation near the ground (in ground effect) during takeoff and landing. Operation in ground effect can create either positive ('fountain') or negative ('suckdown') incremental forces; hot gas reingestion by the engines; and heating on the vehicle underside. One of the best ways to improve the state of the art in design is to gain a more fundamental understanding of these flows. This memorandum describes an experimental investigation of the flow fields created by multiple jets impinging on a ground plane that has been conducted in the Research Department jet mixing laboratory.
