George hates to admit it, but in some ways, it’s an improvement. Let’s face it, the real Hannah was a bit of a screwup. Now she always pays attention when he talks. She never forgets to warm up his slippers in the morning. She cooks his eggs just right every time. Those strange things she says from time to time? Just glitches. Otherwise it would mean the real Hannah was keeping secrets from him, and he knows that can’t be true. She was too good a wife for that. And now she’s even better. This short story is 11,000 words long. It is also available in Digital Soul, a science fiction short story collection.

What a fine, fine book." -Tim O'Brien After Jack Lang impulsively buys the house directly across the street from his own, his wife, Beth, has finally had enough. She leaves him- and their six-year-old autistic son, Hendrick-for Jack's best friend, Terry Canavan. Jack tries telling everyone he's okay, but even he's not so sure. When Hendrick, who rarely talks, starts speaking in fluent Spanish, Jack knows he's in uncharted territory. But once Canavan's ex- girlfriend Rena turns up at his door to see how things are going, Jack begins to suspect the world could be far more complicated than he'd ever believed. Set against a landscape of defunct putt-putt courses and karaoke bars, parenthood and infidelity, This Is Just Exactly Like You is a wise and witty debut novel with captivating insights into marriage, autism, suburban fiasco, and life's occasional miracles.

Book Description
Chastity Newberry had more than enough on her plate with recovering from a ski accident. Just when she thought her life was finally improving, she received the news from hell. She’d been chosen as the winner in the Annual Dancing Beneath the Stars contest at her new job. No way was she going to go, especially since she'd have to dance with Cameron Barron. Cameron Barron was ticked off to begin with. Relocating to Detroit wasn't something he'd ever planned on doing, but here he was, cleaning up someone else’s mess. He didn’t think his life could possibly get any worse, until his evil secretary opened her mouth and ruined what was left of his sanity. What was she thinking, trying to rope him into a ridiculous dance contest where he, as acting CEO, would be the prize? Who the hell comes up with this crap? Someone else could stand in for him, or the annual event was going to be short the CEO. But fate, along with his meddling secretary, had different plans. Bad plans. As far as Cameron was concerned, it shouldn’t have been such a big surprise when things blew up in their faces. Now, he was being blackmailed into fixing it all. In order to meet the crazy demands of his secretary, he’d have to apologize to Chastity. However, she wouldn’t let him get near her. No problem. Cameron was used to a good challenge. He’d just create a disguise to solve this dilemma. Presto! The new persona could apologize on his behalf, then he could get the hell out of Detroit. Cameron’s plan was rock solid. Brilliant even! …Until that fateful day. One slip of the tongue was all it took.

Book Description
This edited book draws from work that focuses on the act of telling family stories, as well as their content and structure. The process of telling family stories is linked to central aspects of development, including language acquisition, affect regulation, and family interaction patterns. This book extends across traditional developmental psychology, personality theory, and family studies. Drawing broadly on the epigenetic framework for individual development articulated by Erik Erikson, as well as on conceptions of the family life cycle, the editors bring together contemporary examples of psychological research on family stories and their implications for development and change at different points in the life course. The book is divided into sections that focus on family stories at different points in the life cycle, from early childhood and the beginnings of narrative skill, through adolescence, young adulthood, midlife, and then mature adulthood and its intergenerational meaning. During each of these periods of the life cycle, research focusing on individual development within an Eriksonian framework of ego strengths and virtues is highlighted. The dynamic role of family stories is also featured here, with work exploring the links between family process, intergenerational attachment, and storytelling. Sociocultural theories that emphasize how such development is situated in the wider cultural context are also featured in several chapters. This broad lifespan developmental focus serves to integrate the exciting diversity of this work and foster further questions and research in the emerging field of family narrative. The book is intended primarily for researchers and advanced-level students in the fields of developmental and personality psychology, as well as those in family studies and in gerontology. It may also be of interest to those in the helping professions who are concerned with family therapy and family issues, and may--due to its content and illustrative material--have appeal to a wider market of the lay public. The chapters are written in a readily accessible style and the analyses are presented in a fairly non-technical way. Because family stories are charted across the lifespan, it would be a suitable companion book to a more traditional lifespan textbook in certain courses.

Book Description
Bereavement is often treated as a psychological condition of the individual with both healthy and pathological forms. However, this empirically-grounded study argues that this is not always the best or only way to help the bereaved. In a radical departure, it emphasises normality and social and cultural diversity in grieving. Exploring the significance of the dying person’s final moments for those who are left behind, this book sheds new light on the variety of ways in which bereaved people maintain their relationship with dead loved ones and how the dead retain a significant social presence in the lives of the living. It draws practical conclusions for professionals in relation to the complex and social nature of grief and the value placed on the right to grieve in one’s own way – supporting and encouraging the bereaved person to articulate their own experience and find their own methods of coping. Based on new empirical research, Bereavement Narratives is an innovative and invaluable read for all students and researchers of death, dying and bereavement.
