Book Description
Background :The question of predictable achievable primary stability of dental implants in the edentulous lower jaw and subsequent possibilities of immediate loading and shortened treatment time for patients is the aim of the present invivo study. Aim:The aim of the present study was to evaluate a possible correlation between voxel values and insertion torque of dental implants in the interforaminal region.Material and Methods;A total of 20 patients with edentulous lower jaws participated in this pilot study. All patients underwent CBCT scan prior to surgery and the obtained data was used for 3-dimensional planning (Simplantu00ae, Dentsply Sirona, Germany) also to determine voxel values. The same implant system (Nobel Replace CCu00ae;Nobel Biocare, Switzerland, Zurich) was used throughout, and all implants were inserted as dictated by the manufactureru2019s drilling protocol. All patients received 4 interforaminal implants. Primary stability was recorded in terms of insertion torque, which was recorded in Nmm by a calibrated device (Elcomed, W&H, Germany). Results: A total of 20 patients (10 women, 10 men) at a mean age of 65.7 years (min: 41 max: 81 years) participated at this pilot study. Insertion torque amounted from min.: 56.0 Nmm to max: 800.0Nmmt(mean: 463.4 SD:167.5). Grey density voxel values evaluated were min.: 425.2 and max.:1479.1 (mean:944 SD227.6). The Pearson correlation coefficient was significant for the correlation between insertion torque and voxel values (r = 0.624; p = 0.003). Linear regression model showed significant influence of bone quality (p=0.587), diameter (p=0.012) and voxel value (p=0.042) on insertion torque. Conclusion and clinical implication:Preoperative evaluation of grey density voxel values can be an appropriate method to assess primary stability of dental implants. Further clinical studies are needed to verify the results of this clinical pilot study.
