Ce mémoire a pour objectif d' évaluer la mémoire des traumatisés crâniens sévères de façon écologique à l' aide du Rivermead Behavorial Memory Test (RBMT) . Parmi les séquelles cognitives du traumatisme crânien, les troubles de mémoire sont les plus fréquents et les plus invalidants. L' évaluation des capacités mnésiques des patients au travers de tâches proches de situations de la vie quotidienne doit permettre d' estimer les possibilités de réinsertion professionnelle et familiale du patient. La finalité d' une prise en charge doit être orientée vers l' amélioration de la qualité de vie de la personne ayant subi un traumatisme crânien. La première partie de l' étude porte sur la validation du RBMT auprès de 60 sujets témoins âgés de 16 à 39 ans à raison de 2 passations par sujet où l'on note un léger effet du sexe sur les performances. La seconde partie concerne l' analyse des résultats au RBMT de 7 patients traumatisés crâniens sévère ainsi que les études de cas de ces patients. L' analyse statistique a mis en évidence une corrélation entre la durée de l' amnésie post-traumatique et la note brute totale des patients. En outre, plus le délai écoulé depuis l' accident est long, meilleures sont les performances au score total de mémoire prospective.

Originally published in 1982, this book brings together two areas of research previously studied in parallel, with little interaction (particularly in the US): normal memory processing and the amnesic syndrome. When trying to document the relationship between the two it became apparent that there was much crossover and duplication of effort in a number of areas: whether long-term memory and short-term memory truly represent independent storage systems, or are simply points on a continuum; trying to determine the primary locus of variables influencing the rate at which information is lost during retention; whether episodic memory and semantic memory represent two different storage systems, or are simply artifacts produced by different kinds of query to a single memory system and finally, whether visual and verbal memory are independent. It was written, following a meeting in 1979, by a small group of investigators, brought together to explore this commonality and to share data and theory, thus beginning the promise of a bright future of interdisciplinary interaction in memory research.
