Book Description
Nowadays most organisations understand and accept that people are the key drivers of value in their organisation. With company accounts recording the costs associated with people, not the benefits that they bring, this text explores the experiences of 10 case study organisations that are making real and deliberate efforts to understand the contributions of their employees, and how that contributes to the success of the business. This text also reviews the extensive body of literature on the subject and explores case study organisations, which include such companies as Marks & Spencer, Tesco, BT and BAE Systems. The text concludes that human capital cannot be the subject of a one-size-fits-all measurement tool, but that it is possible for organisations to measure and manage human capital using methodology designed to suit their own needs and goals.

Book Description
Academic Paper from the year 2018 in the subject Economics - Other, grade: 1,0, University of Applied Sciences Essen, language: English, abstract: This paper examines the questions of how important human capital is for business success. With this intention it is first defined what human capital is before there are evaluated several measurement approaches concerning the valuation of human capital in a company. Consequently, embedded into a case study, the value of this asset is calculated with the Lev & Schwartz model at an Indian tech company called Infosys technology limited. As a result of the case study it is pictured that human capital and the returns of Infosys are highly correlated, which underlines the hypothesis that human capital is a key factor for business success. To generalise the stated findings there is also a view on a macro economical level. The main result of this paper is that human capital actually can be said to be the most important aspect for business success. In a last part the author criticises that many companies do not pay enough attention at human capital.

Book Description
Measuring Human Capital addresses a country’s most important resource: its own people. Bettering human capital benefits individuals and their country and leads to improved sustainability for the future. For many years economists only used Gross Domestic Product (GDP), now acknowledged to be inadequate without supplemental measures, to gauge a country’s overall value. There is now a recognition that many variables contribute to a country’s worth, which make accurate measurement difficult. Looking beyond GDP by focusing on human capital, researchers, policymakers, government officials, and students can understand what elements impact human capital and how they might improve it in order to increase economic growth and well-being. Addresses six major measures of human capital, covering at least 130 countries Describes both monetary and index estimates Includes two monetary measures by the World Bank and the Inclusive Wealth Report by UNEP and the Urban Institute of Kyushu University Includes four index measures by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation of the University of Washington, United Nations Development Programme, World Economic Forum, and World Bank Includes two country chapters, one on China and the other on the United States

Book Description
Strategic Management of Human Capital in Education offers a comprehensive and strategic approach to address what has become labeled as "talent and human capital." Grounded in extensive research and examples of leading edge districts, this book shows how the entire human resource system in schools—from recruitment, to selection/placement, induction, professional development, performance management and evaluation, compensation, and career progression—can be reformed and restructured to boost teacher and principal effectiveness in ways that dramatically improve instructional practice and student learning. Strategic Management of Human Capital in Education guides educators towards putting more effective teachers, teacher leaders, and principals in the country’s schools—especially in poverty-impacted urban and rural communities—equipping those teacher and principals with instructional and leadership expertise, and rewarding and retaining those who are successful in attaining these objectives. Drawing from cases, experiences, and deliberations from a national task force, this book outlines a comprehensive framework for how to transform current human resource management practices into authentic, strategic talent management systems in order to improve student achievement.

Book Description
This qualitative case study of an American manufacturing organization describes the barriers which limited its ability to receive maximum return on its investment for training and development resources invested in their human assets. Changing global economics have forced organizations to the realization that their competitive advantage lies in developing and tapping into their human assets or human capital. Professionals, managers, human resource development specialists, and academicians alike have developed theories supporting the systematic development of human assets to improve performance and achieve organizational business goals. This book examines how one organization, typically described as a High Performance Organization, attempted to put theory into application. Specifically, the book examines the concepts of needs assessment, systems theory, organization development, human capital theory, and performance improvement. The results find a systemic failure in human asset development initiatives rooted in the failure to view the organization as a whole, systematically assess performance, and involve the entire organization in designing and implementing a holistic approach to improving performance and developing the organizations human assets. Specifically, inefficient organizational structure and lack of clearly defined business goals were significant barriers to the systematic development of their human assets.
