Book Description
This paper analyses how many euro coins outflow from Germany and which composition of coins is to be expected in the long run. To this end, a simple mathematical model is formulated and calibrated for €1 coins. The introduction of the euro coins in 2002 presented a unique opportunity to analyse the cross-border migration and the mixing process of coins in different euro-area countries. Based on research by Stoyan and depending on growth assumptions, the annual outflow of German €1 coins is calculated to lie somewhere between 4% and 5%. In the long run, the ratio of German €1 coins in Germany is likely to converge to around 50%.

Book Description
The introduction of the euro, first as 'book money' in 1999 and later as banknotes and coins in 2002, was a major step in the construction of the European Union. It is also one of its most tangible achievements : fifty years after the signing of the Treaty of Rome, the founding act of the European Community, over 315 million people share the benefits of the single currency in the 13 countries that are currently members of the euro area. To commemorate this historic anniversary, the euro-area members issued a special 2-euro coin in 2007 with a single design. You will find out more about this and all other euro coins and banknotes in this presentation, which includes downloadable images in various resolutions for your professional and personal use.

Book Description
On 1 January 2001, the Euro became the official, circulating currency of twelve of the fifteen nations of the European Union, replacing such national currencies as the franc, the mark, and the lira. It becomes the currency of just over 300 million people encompassing an economic area with a GDP of USD5.2 trillion. The common currency is a pivotal step in the economic integration of participating European Union member states. A successful European common currency may also provide a challenge to the dollar as the world's reserve currency. The book presents issues and analyses related to this new and powerful currency. Contents: Preface; The Euro; The Euro Currency: How Much Could It Cost the United States?; The Euro: Implications for the United States -- Answers to Key Questions; Tracking of Business Attitudes to the Euro: The First Year After its Launch; The Impact of the Changeover to the Euro on Community Policies, Institutions and Legislation; Index.
