Book Description
Electronic materials are a dominant factor in many areas of modern technology. The need to understand'them is paramount; this book addresses that need. The main aim of this volume is to provide a broad unified view of electronic materials, including key aspects of their science and technology and also, in many cases, their commercial implications. It was considered important that much of the contents of such an overview should be intelligible by a broad audience of graduates and industrial scientists, and relevant to advanced undergraduate studies. It should also be up to date and even looking forward to the future. Although more extensive, and written specifically as a text, the resulting book has much in common with a short course of the same name given at Coventry Polytechnic. The interpretation of the term "electronic materials" used in this volume is a very broad one, in line with the initial aim. The principal restriction is that, with one or two minor exceptions relating to aspects of device processing, for example, the materials dealt with are all active materials. Materials such as simple insulators or simple conductors, playing only a passive role, are not singled out for consider ation. Active materials might be defined as those involved in the processing of signals in a way that depends crucially on some specific property of those materials, and the immediate question then concerns the types of signals that might be considered.

Book Description
Mycorrhizas are symbioses between fungi and the roots of higher plants. More than 90% of all plant species have the potential to form such associations, which are often essential for optimal plant growth and productivity. Leading experts cover aspects of - structure and function; - molecular biology; - biotechnological applications; - ecophysiology; - systematics.

Book Description
The volume covers the preparation and analysis of model systems for biological electron microscopy. The volume has chapters about prokaryotic as well as eukaryotic systems that are used as so-called model organisms in modern cell biology. These systems include the most popular systems, such as budding and fission yeast, the roundworm C. elegans, the fly Drosophila, zebrafish, mouse, and Arabidopsis, but also organisms that are less frequently used in cell biology, such as Chlamydomonas, Dictyostelium, Trypanosoma, faltworms, Axolotl and others. In addition, tissues and tissue culture systems are also covered. These systems are used for very diverse areas of cell biology, such as cell division, abscission, intracellular transport, cytoskeletal organization, tissue regeneration and others. Moreover, this issue presents the currently most important methods for the preparation of biological specimens. This volume, however, is not a classic EM methods book. The methods are not the main focus of this issue. The main goal here is to cover the methods in the context of the specific requirements of specimen preparation for each model organism or systems. This will be the first compendium covering the various aspects of sample preparation of very diverse biological systems. Covers the preparation and analysis of model systems for biological electron microscopy Includes the most popular systems but also organisms that are less frequently used in cell biology Presents the currently most important methods for the preparation of biological specimens First compendium covering the various aspects of sample preparation of very diverse biological systems

Book Description
This unique one-volume handbook provides a quick and concise reference guide for practising ophthalmologists, retinal specialists, vitreo-retinal fellows, ophthalmology residents and optometrists on the latest recommendations for managing common vitreo-retinal disorders seen in everyday retina practise. It provides comprehensive and essential information on diagnosis and management in outline and table format for conciseness and quick access. Color illustrations of important clinical manifestations are provided in an appendix.Dr Susanna Park is a Professor of ophthalmology and Director of Vitreo-retinal Fellowship and Ocular Oncology at the University of California Davis Eye Center. She has over 20 years clinical experience as a vitreo-retinal specialist and published over 100 journal papers and book chapters on the subject.
