Book Description
This book offers a selection of papers dealing with second language acquisition, foreign language teaching and creole linguistics inspired by the scientific legacy of Mauritian-born scholar Georges Daniel Véronique (Port-Louis, 1948). An important part of the book is devoted to the description of learner varieties with a focus on sociolinguistic factors, such as the learner situation – from asylum seekers to Erasmus students –, the degree of familiarity with the target language – having or not previous knowledge about a genetically related language –, the degree of literacy, and the type of instruction. Linguistic complexity, case marking, the use of self-positioning pronouns, verbal morphology and aspectual values are among the linguistic phenomena analyzed by the authors having contributed to this part of the volume. Another part of this volume deals with language didactics and addresses the questions of whether manipulating specific constructions from a usage-based perspective and a focus-on-form approach do indeed aid beginner learners to acquire complex forms in L2 German and nominal forms in L2 Polish, respectively. It also explores how some educational policies in Sweden have affected both the offer of French as a Foreign Language and its demand by students. The contributions to creole studies present diachronic analyses targeting the /z/ plural marking in Réunion creole, Fa d’Ambô and spoken French, and a set of NPs found in two speeches pronounced in 1835 on the island of Agaléga by a coconut oil producer whose features are similar to Mauritian creole. Linguistic, social and historical factors are at the center of these contributions.

Book Description
Often described as the "hottest" retail phenomenon, ephemeral retail concerns the growth of pop-up stores as a new mode of retailing. These temporary stores "pop-up" without notice, quickly attract crowds, then disappear or morph into something else. Although they share similarities with traditional physical stores and online stores, ephemeral stores outshine existing retail formats as they have many unique and differentiating characteristics. These stores are becoming more popular among distribution channels as they offer exclusive and surprising retail experiences. Many established brands have already integrated these new points of sale into their distribution channels, while other brands are adopting them to raise communication, awareness, sales or just for experimentation. This phenomenon is finding its place amongst retailers not only for its efficiency and effectiveness but also for its unique impact, providing a sense of novelty that makes it particularly attractive to postmodern consumers seeking hedonic experiences. This concise text introduces all aspects of this growing phenomenon and contextualises it within existing channels of distribution. It explores brand atmospheric interventions that are designed to affect customer emotions, behaviours or experiences, as well as practices retailers adopt to build relationships with their customers. It will be of interest to scholars and advanced students in retail marketing and branding.

Book Description
The book examines ecological issues such as climate change and biodiversity, articulating local and global scales, and short and long term perspectives, questioning what "development" and "progress" are. The goal is to show how diverging points of view are conflictingly articulated to one another, in a political ideology perspective. This perspective, which is close to the main actor's point of view, allows displacement of the usual analysis, and offers a new synthesis.

Book Description
The countries of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean (SEM) and those in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are crucial to the development of the world economy. Highly skilled migration to and from these regions is key to the recent socio-political transformations that have occurred across the world. Despite this, in the states concerned, skilled migration remains an underlying 'issue of concern', rather than at the top of political agendas, leading to a spectrum of unclear and uncoordinated legal and policy frameworks. Containing a series of thematic and country-specific overviews, this book highlights the specificity of each region, and identifies and analyses key demographic, economic, legal and political data - allowing for policy prescription. Skilled Migration, the 'brain drain', and its impact is an extensively debated phenomenon and this will be an essential companion for social scientists, policy-makers and development scholars.

Book Description
Our world overwhelms us with more and more data everyday. Yet we need to face many challenges in order to deal with its complexity – notably to discern the essential from the accessory, to exploit quality and not quantity, to explore the depth of our knowledge and to produce from it, in a reasoned way, effective ideas to be put into action. A synthesis of a triple experience in industry, pedagogy and academia, Knowledge and Ideation presents numerous concepts, such as the dematerialized knowledge object, inventive intellectual heritage, inventive potential, and knowledge-based ideation. This book develops and describes applications in the form of case studies while proposing prospects.

Book Description
The six parts of Feminist Research: Prospect and Retrospect parallel the female life cycle, highlighting themes such as the increasing power of medical definitions of female experience - including conception, pregnancy, childbirth - and the nature of depression in women. New perspectives are offered on the specificity of the female approach to both learning and teaching and are emphasized in considering problems such as dealing with alcohol abuse and wife-battering. For example, Margaret Eichler opens the initial section, "Reproduction and Maternity," with an analysis of the new reproductive technologies. Making use of interviews and quantitative material, Ann Quénairt and Jane Gordon take up the theme of the medicalization of reproduction, suggesting that it has encouraged women to see the foetus as taking priority over the needs of the mother during pregnancy. This section is completed by Martin Thomas' interesting approach to gender distribution. Feminist Research: Prospect and Retrospect offers a thorough look at the problems of women today, suggesting that society is encountering a period of strong reaction to the feminist movement of the late sixties and early seventies. Marguerite Anderson argues that only the "dynamite of research" will allow construction of a positive route forward. This collection includes essays in both English and French.
