Book Description
L'OBJET DE CETTE THESE EST L'APPROXIMATION NUMERIQUE DE QUELQUES NOUVEAUX PROBLEMES DE DIFFRACTION D'ONDES ELECTROMAGNETIQUES PAR DES RESEAUX PERIODIQUES EN REGIME HARMONIQUE. LA THESE COMMENCE PAR QUELQUES RAPPELS SUR LES RESEAUX PLANS ECLAIRES PAR UNE ONDE PLANE. DANS LE CHAPITRE 2 ON PRESENTE UNE MISE EN OEUVRE NUMERIQUE ORIGINALE. CE CODE SERT DE BASE POUR LA SUITE. DANS LE CHAPITRE 3, ON CONSIDERE UN RESEAU PLAN ECLAIRE PAR UNE ONDE QUELCONQUE. LA TRANSFORMEE DE FLOQUET-BLOCH NOUS PERMET D'ECRIRE LE CHAMP COMME UNE INTEGRALE DE CHAMPS QUASI-PERIODIQUES. NOUS TRAITONS L'ONDE CYLINDRIQUE ET NOUS ELOIGNONS LA SOURCE DU RESEAU. NOUS EFFECTUONS L'ANALYSE ASYMPTOTIQUE FORMELLE PAR LA METHODE DE LA PHASE STATIONNAIRE. CECI CONDUIT A L'APPROXIMATION LOCALE DU CHAMP DIFFRACTE PROCHE PAR LE CHAMP DIFFRACTE PAR LE RESEAU INFINI ECLAIRE PAR UNE ONDE PLANE. NOUS MONTRONS DES RESULTATS NUMERIQUES QUI CONFIRMENT CETTE THEORIE. NOUS MONTRONS EGALEMENT DES CAS OU L'EXISTENCE D'UN MODE GUIDE EMPECHE CETTE APPROXIMATION LOCALE. LES RESEAUX COURBES A BASE CIRCULAIRE SONT ETUDIES DANS LE CHAPITRE 4. ON UTILISE LA TRANSFORMATION DE FLOQUET-BLOCH DISCRETE. APRES L'ETUDE THEORIQUE DU PROBLEME VARIATIONNEL ET L'ANALYSE NUMERIQUE DE LA METHODE D'ELEMENTS FINIS, NOUS PASSONS A LA MISE EN OEUVRE. LE CHAPITRE 5 TRAITE DE L'APPROXIMATION BASSE FREQUENCE DES RESEAUX. IL S'AGIT DES CAS OU LA LONGUEUR D'ONDE EST GRANDE DEVANT LE PAS DU RESEAU. NOUS VALIDONS NUMERIQUEMENT LES RESULTATS ANTERIEURS. ON DEMONTRE QUELQUES CARACTERISATIONS DES IMPEDANCES DANS LE CAS TM. L'APPROXIMATION D'UN RESEAU COURBE PAR UN RESEAU PLAN EST ETUDIEE DANS LE CHAPITRE 6. NOUS VALIDONS NUMERIQUEMENT LES RESULTATS ANTERIEURS POUR CERTAINS RESEAUX. DANS DES CAS OU ON EST PROCHE D'UNE RESONANCE, L'APPROXIMATION N'EST PAS BONNE. NOUS PROPOSONS UNE NOUVELLE APPROCHE THEORIQUE BASE SUR LA METHODE DE LA PHASE STATIONNAIRE. EN L'ABSENCE DE RESONANCE LA PHASE STATIONNAIRE DONNE LE RESULTAT CONNU. DANS LE CAS D'UN POLE, UN TERME SUPPLEMENTAIRE VIENT S'AJOUTER.

Book Description
Earthen architecture constitutes one of the most diverse forms of cultural heritage and one of the most challenging to preserve. It dates from all periods and is found on all continents but is particularly prevalent in Africa, where it has been a building tradition for centuries. Sites range from ancestral cities in Mali to the palaces of Abomey in Benin, from monuments and mosques in Iran and Buddhist temples on the Silk Road to Spanish missions in California. This volume's sixty-four papers address such themes as earthen architecture in Mali, the conservation of living sites, local knowledge systems and intangible aspects, seismic and other natural forces, the conservation and management of archaeological sites, research advances, and training.

Book Description
This new, third volume of Cohen-Tannoudji's groundbreaking textbook covers advanced topics of quantum mechanics such as uncorrelated and correlated identical particles, the quantum theory of the electromagnetic field, absorption, emission and scattering of photons by atoms, and quantum entanglement. Written in a didactically unrivalled manner, the textbook explains the fundamental concepts in seven chapters which are elaborated in accompanying complements that provide more detailed discussions, examples and applications. * Completing the success story: the third and final volume of the quantum mechanics textbook written by 1997 Nobel laureate Claude Cohen-Tannoudji and his colleagues Bernard Diu and Franck Laloë * As easily comprehensible as possible: all steps of the physical background and its mathematical representation are spelled out explicitly * Comprehensive: in addition to the fundamentals themselves, the books comes with a wealth of elaborately explained examples and applications Claude Cohen-Tannoudji was a researcher at the Kastler-Brossel laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris where he also studied and received his PhD in 1962. In 1973 he became Professor of atomic and molecular physics at the Collège des France. His main research interests were optical pumping, quantum optics and atom-photon interactions. In 1997, Claude Cohen-Tannoudji, together with Steven Chu and William D. Phillips, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his research on laser cooling and trapping of neutral atoms. Bernard Diu was Professor at the Denis Diderot University (Paris VII). He was engaged in research at the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics and High Energy where his focus was on strong interactions physics and statistical mechanics. Franck Laloë was a researcher at the Kastler-Brossel laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. His first assignment was with the University of Paris VI before he was appointed to the CNRS, the French National Research Center. His research was focused on optical pumping, statistical mechanics of quantum gases, musical acoustics and the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Book Description
In this historical volume Salvatore Califano traces the developments of ideas and theories in physical and theoretical chemistry throughout the 20th century. This seldom-told narrative provides details of topics from thermodynamics to atomic structure, radioactivity and quantum chemistry. Califano’s expertise as a physical chemist allows him to judge the historical developments from the point of view of modern chemistry. This detailed and unique historical narrative is fascinating for chemists working in the fields of physical chemistry and is also a useful resource for science historians who will enjoy access to material not previously dealt with in a coherent way.
