Book Description
To understand contemporary Mexico, it is absolutely necessary to examine its level of development, and its relationship with the rest of the world. The level of development will, most likely, be related to the world system network, although the concepts are not identical. In Understanding Mexico and Mexico City in the World Economy, the authors aim to determine Mexico's level of development, and how Mexico fits into the world system.Through their research, the authors provide outcomes that will develop a more refined world systems approach. The book features cluster analyses of Mexican economic development levels, sector case studies including specific spatial analyses and maps of trends in Mexico, a systematic theoretic framework encompassing levels of the world, national, and local areas, and recent data presented through maps, tables, charts, and statistical summaries. The text will prove to be useful and practical for researchers, academics, and others interested in Mexico and its international linkages.

Book Description
How industrialization undid a region in Mexico Scholars once treated regions as fundamental units of social organization, influencing the affairs of communities and households. Chris Kyle renews that perspective by charting the history of a preindustrial region in the southern Mexican state of Guerrero. Examining the city of Chilapa and its surrounding countryside, he documents a region’s initial formation, subsequent evolution, and ultimate dissolution, brought about by the forces of industrialization. Feeding Chilapa traces the emergence of Chilapa as a textile center in the late eighteenth century, the reorganization of the city’s hinterland in the mid-nineteenth century, and the ultimate dissolution of the region in the mid-twentieth century. When improved transportation enabled the movement of cheap goods over long distances, subsistence and artisanal production declined or disappeared, and labor relations, settlement geography, and migration patterns were transformed. Kyle offers a new perspective on the immigration debate, exploring the factors that lead rural citizens to leave economically depressed regions for larger Mexican cities, border industries, or the United States. Written to be accessible to undergraduates, this volume offers a counterpoint to traditional community-based studies and our understanding of change in Latin America. Chris Kyle is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and author of numerous scholarly articles on rural Mexico.

Book Description
Organizations today are facing unprecedented challenges, including an ageing workforce, potential talent shortages, an increasingly competitive international environment and the need to utilize the talents of the best qualified people, regardless of gender. More women than men, in many cases, are graduating from universities and gaining the requisite experience to qualify for advancement to higher levels of management. In this expanded and revised third edition, Professors Burke and Richardsen, together with a list of international contributors, address women’s progression in the workforce and into the upper echelons of management. They cover a range of professions and a geographically dispersed territory, thereby advancing the understanding of women in management within a traditional context, and making a substantial contribution to the literature for both an academic and practitioner audience. The broader regional perspective offers a comprehensive overview of the challenges and opportunities facing women in the workplace, and promotes the ongoing analysis of the interface between women's career aspirations and societal and organizational norms, assumptions and values. Following the same format as the previous edition, the country by country analysis allows for the data between countries and regions to be compared, for the differences to be addressed and a more holistic picture of the situation in a given country to be assessed. Women in Management Worldwide will appeal to researchers, policy-makers in a range of countries interested in workforce issues, talent management and gender equality, as well as consultants working with international organizations on HRM and organizational effectiveness challenges.

Book Description
