Book Description
A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Book Description
Sadly, and far too pervasive, submerged pain-narratives are so easily hidden and are historically, sometimes trapping humankind within gross diachronic amniotic darkness, where it is difficult to breath. Embodied within this murky quality of inundated, panic-ridden, personal pain; unresolved pain is conceiving a murderer, nurturing unhealthy, dysfunctional generativity. This gravid amniote of hidden pain is as a lurking executioner, ready and able to dehumanize and kill: Bio by Psycho by Socio and Spiritual means. This readiness is a disturbing, diachronic constant; a vicious variable common to all life and living. When I reflect upon the intra-interpersonal experiences of my patients, empathy seems uncommon. Yet, what my patients, and all humankind, share in common is an undeniable connection with pain. The narrative connected to one's pain is meant to be shared not locked up in the dark recesses of ones' humanity. Unlocking one's pain-story, the Sufferer, may encounter intra-interpersonal relationships (IPRs) characterized by suffering, sharing, perseverance, character, compassion, empathy, and hope but not limited to these, along the way of their pilgrimage with pain. Other IPRs may involve oneself with breaking generational curses, conceiving healthy generativity, and embodying the resources to help others with a particular substance of empathy to help build better relationships. Building better relationships is a vigorous heart-wrenching journey. This book is an invitation to begin such a heartfelt journey.

Book Description
Overcoming Survival Mode Returning Soldiers’ Stories of Coping and Resilience By: Anna Rosa R. Alonzo From the days of the American Revolution through the current Operation New Dawn, service men and women have returned from duty emotionally and physically wounded. They are greeted with a lack of federal benefits, the stigmatization associated with the military and mental illness, and a shortage of avenues for psychological and treatment and support. Overcoming Survival Mode details these and other challenges veterans face as they return to mainstream American society and provides education and tools to help veterans and those who care about them at this critical time in their lives. Anna Rosa R. Alonzo shares knowledge from her research and years of experience working with veterans who have returned home. Her passion also comes from personal experience as the wife of a veteran of the U.S. Army and Navy, who served three tours over eleven years, and as the granddaughter of a veteran of the Vietnam War. She hopes readers will come away with a better understanding of the struggle of veterans and some of the tools available to help them become resilient and thrive as they reintegrate into civilian life.

Book Description
NOW WITH A NEW CHAPTER AND AN UPDATED RESOURCES SECTION Suicide has touched the lives of nearly half of all Americans, yet it is rarely talked about openly. In her highly acclaimed book, Susan Blauner—a survivor of multiple suicide attempts—offers guidance and hope for those contemplating ending their lives and for their loved ones. “Each word written with thoughtful intent; each story told with the deepest of honesty and humility, and in doing so Blauner puts forward a life-saving book."—Daniel J. Reidenberg, PsyD, Executive Director, Suicide Awareness Voices of Education (www.save.org) “I continued to romanticize my death by suicide: who would find me; what I’d look like. I spent hundreds of hours planning my funeral, imagining the remorse of my family and friends. I wrote good-bye letters, composed wills, and disrupted the lives of everyone close to me. Then reality hit.”—Susan Rose Blauner The statistics on suicide are staggering. The World Health Organization estimates that nearly 800,000 people die by suicide every year, which is one person every 40 seconds, and for each completed suicide there may be twenty or more attempts. In How I Stayed Alive When My Brain Was Trying to Kill Me, Susan Blauner is the perfect emissary for a message of hope and a program of action for these millions of people. A survivor of multiple suicide attempts, she explains the complex feelings and fantasies that surround suicidal thoughts. In a direct, nonjudgmental, and loving voice, she offers affirmations and suggestions for those experiencing life-ending thoughts, and for their friends and family. With an introduction by Bernie Siegel, M.D., this important, timely book has now been updated with a revised resources section, and a new chapter on the author’s experiences since the book’s initial publication.
