Book Description

Book Description
The European Union has committed itself to the goal of extending the healthy lifespan of its citizens by two years under the 2020 strategy. This book brings together a diverse range of overviews, reflections and empirical research in the area which arise from the contribution of professionals and researchers from different fields of knowledge. Together they undertake to suggest possible pathways and to inspire action in all those who see themselves as participants in the processes and endeavour of building a society which espouses active, dignified, healthy and mindful aging. The background perspective which informs this project – that which is commonly referred to as Lifelong Education – calls for an integrated approach from diverse areas of knowledge in the service of building a more enlightened society: less susceptible to the influence of prejudices, enriched with human beings driven by ideals of health, justice, solidarity and nobility of spirit. Life must be understood as a totality that takes meaning from all its phases and which stimulates the vast potential that human beings, including older people and society at large, with its various systems, have for the common good. Let us face the challenge of building a new humanism, placing human beings and the sustainability of all forms of life at the centre of the dynamic process of change!

Book Description
Older employees are often seen as an obstacle and not as an opportunity for companies, especially regarding the transfer of knowledge and experience. Effective development and utilization of older professional and managerial employees is an important issue as most organizations are not prepared to tailor their training methods to the needs and preferences of these employees due to negative stereotypes. Managing a rapidly aging workforce and sustaining economic dynamism calls for systematic research to prevent age discrimination due to an incomplete knowledge of older workers and politically challenging policy choices that require strong political commitments, robust management leadership, and social consensus. International Perspectives and Strategies for Managing an Aging Workforce examines the differences in stereotypes of older employees compared to younger employees in companies; analyzes the impact of the aging workforce on retention, productivity, and well-being; and investigates organizational systems, processes, and practices for managing older workers. Covering a range of topics such as retention and retirement, this reference work is ideal for researchers, academicians, practitioners, business owners, managers, human resource workers, instructors, and students.

Dermatological diseases are extremely common around the globe, and a systematic understanding of these conditions and their relationships with various epidemiological factors could provide insights to help governments and private institutions address the challenges they need to overcome in order to improve global health. This extensively revised second edition comprehensively discusses the fundamental areas of dermatological practice in public health. It features more than 900 figures, eight new chapters and two new sections: a) Dermatological Biopsy and Major Histopathological Patterns, exploring surgical methods for collecting cutaneous specimens from outpatients and the analysis of major histopathological patterns; b) Special Chapters, which outlines Hospital Dermatology in Public Health, covering hospital care as a backup in dermatoses of importance in public health; Dermatological Education in Public Health, examining the interface between teaching and students for the development of dermatological practice; and a Brief History of Dermatology. Further topics include the profile of dermatological care based on epidemiological concepts; the most significant skin diseases (including dermatology in tropical medicine); the relationship between the environment and dermatological diseases; dermatoses in the human life cycles, diseases that are not primarily dermatological, but have a high impact on public health and may have skin and mucosal manifestations; a number of emerging issues in dermatology in public health; clinical approaches (diagnosis and management) to common dermatological symptoms; multidisciplinary approaches in dermatology; surgical and histopathological aspects of the main dermatological diseases; and the hospital as an aid in the management of complex dermatoses and dermatological education in public health.
