FM 3-34.22 Engineer Operations- Brigade Combat Team and Below
Author: U S Army
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 250
Book Description
The engineer support doctrine for the brigade combat team (BCT) is focused on tactical-level maneuvers. The engineer organizations organic to the BCT are optimized to perform combat engineering (primarily mobility with limited capabilities in countermobility and survivability) tasks with geospatial engineering support provided by the organic terrain teams. Additional engineering support (combat and general) comes from modular engineer organizations that are task-organized to the BCT or providing support from echelons above brigade (EAB) organizations. This manual is aligned with current BCT doctrine (see Field Manual [FM] 3-90.6) and describes engineer support for the heavy brigade combat team (HBCT), infantry brigade combat team (IBCT), and Stryker brigade combat team (SBCT). Although the armored cavalry regiment (ACR) and itsengineer company is not specifically addressed, the basic principles of this manual also apply to those organizations.

Book Description
Into the Breach: Historical Case Studies of Mobility Operations in Large-Scale Combat Operations, examines ten historical case studies of mobility and countermobility operations from World War I through Desert Storm. The case studies take a closer look at mobility and countermobility successes and failures in large-scale combat operations against peer or near-peer threats. The chapters highlight several insights, themes, and patterns that current commanders and doctrine developers must be aware of when discussing or conducting mobility operations. The final chapter addresses future mobility and countermobility developments that the U.S. Army will face in Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) against peer and near-peer adversaries.

Rangers
Author: Michael Julius King
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Government publications
Languages : en
Pages : 102
Book Description
This Leavenworth Paper is a critical reconstruction of World War II Ranger operations conducted at or near Djebel el Ank, Tunisia; Porto Empedocle, Sicily; Cisterna, Italy; Zerf, Germany; and Cabanatuan in the Philippines. It is not intended to be a comprehensive account of World War II Ranger operations, for such a study would have to include numerous minor actions that are too poorly documented to be studied to advantage. It is, however, representative for it examines several types of operations conducted against the troops of three enemy nations in a variety of physical and tactical environments. As such, it draws a wide range of lessons useful to combat leaders who may have to conduct such operations or be on guard against them in the future. Many factors determined the outcomes of the operations featured in this Leavenworth Paper, and of these there are four that are important enough to merit special emphasis. These are surprise, the quality of opposing forces, the success of friendly forces with which the Rangers were cooperating, and popular support.

The Other End of the Spear
Author: John J. Mcgrath
Publisher: Lulu.com
ISBN: 1105056155
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 121
Book Description
This book looks at several troop categories based on primary function and analyzes the ratio between these categories to develop a general historical ratio. This ratio is called the Tooth-to-Tail Ratio. McGrath's study finds that this ratio, among types of deployed US forces, has steadily declined since World War II, just as the nature of warfare itself has changed. At the same time, the percentage of deployed forces devoted to logistics functions and to base and life support functions have increased, especially with the advent of the large-scale of use of civilian contractors. This work provides a unique analysis of the size and composition of military forces as found in historical patterns. Extensively illustrated with charts, diagrams, and tables. (Originally published by the Combat Studies Institute Press)
