Regional Energy Demand and Energy Efficiency in Japan
Author: Akihiro Otsuka
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319475665
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 105
Book Description
This book describes structural analysis methods for examining energy demand and energy efficiency that are important in formulating regional economic and environmental policies. Beginning with ways of ascertaining regional energy demand, it describes methods for developing energy efficiency indicators and their determinants. Fluctuations in regional energy demand are largely explained by analyzing variations in energy intensity, and there is a strong association between energy efficiency indicators and energy intensity. The energy efficiency indicator proposed is consistent with fluctuations in energy intensity and is highly accurate. According to the empirical analysis using this indicator, energy efficiency is high in regions where population concentration has risen, as typified by "compact cities." As such, the book highlights the need to increase regional energy efficiency, to achieve regional economic growth despite growing environmental constraints, and the importance of forming and developing clusters to this end. The book is a valuable resource for planners, researchers and government employees.

U.S.-Japan Energy Policy Considerations for the 1990s
Author: John E. Gray
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 136
Book Description
In 1981, the Atlantic Council's Energy Policy Committee, in collaboration with the Japanese Committee for Energy Policy Promotion and the Japanese Institute of Energy Economics, published a joint policy paper entitled 'U.S.-Japan Energy Relationships in the 1980s.' The paper consisted of U.S. and Japanese views on bilateral energy relations, together with a series of joint policy recommendations addressing the security of energy supplies, the need for more efficient use of energy, and the benefits to be derived from closer U.S.-Japan collaboration in these matters. Since this report was released, a dozen meetings between the relevant parties have taken place. This volume represents the joint conclusions of the most recent plenary session held in November of 1987. Co-published with the Atlantic Council of the United States.

The Oxford Handbook of Energy Politics
Author: Kathleen J. Hancock
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA
ISBN: 0190861363
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 833
Book Description
"In many ways, everything we once knew about energy resources and technologies has been impacted by: the longstanding scientific consensus on climate change and related support for renewable energy; the affordability of extraction of unconventional fuels; increasing demand for energy resources by middle- and low-income nations; new regional and global stakeholders; fossil fuel discoveries and emerging renewable technologies; awareness of (trans)local politics; and rising interest in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the need for energy justice. Research on these and related topics now appears frequently in social science academic journals-in broad-based journals, such as International Organization, International Studies Quarterly, and Review of International Political Economy, as well as those focused specifically on energy (e.g., Energy Research & Social Science and Energy Policy), the environment (Global Environmental Politics), natural resources (Resources Policy), and extractive industries (Extractive Industries and Society). The Oxford Handbook of Energy Politics synthesizes and aggregates this substantively diverse literature to provide insights into, and a foundation for teaching and research on, critical energy issues primarily in the areas of international relations and comparative politics. Its primary goals are to further develop the energy politics scholarship and community, and generate sophisticated new work that will benefit a variety of scholars working on energy issues"--
