Continuing the Architecture in Context series, this second volume narrates the development of architecture across a huge swathe of the world, from the Indian subcontinent to the Japanese archipelago, over a period extending from prehistory to the arrival of Islam and its distinct traditions from the eleventh century onwards. Fantastically illustrated, with over 1,000 photographs and drawings, Christopher Tadgell covers the major architectural traditions of India, China, Thailand and Japan as well as the spectacular architecture of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Korea, Myenmar, Bhutan and Tibet. As with the first volume – Antiquity – The East presents not only the buildings themselves, but the cultures and peoples that they are a part of. Unprecedented in its scope, this volume is a beautiful guide to the fascinating history of Eastern architecture.

Book Description
Brent, a fourteen-year-old boy who loves baseball, playing the violin, and delivering papers, is severely beaten by a gang of four boys for an indiscretion he didn't commit in the year 1972. He awakens from a coma and catatonic state after more than three years. He has an amazing tale to share about the time he spent in the Waiting Room, a place spirits go to await disposition while their bodies are in a coma or catatonia. While in the Waiting Room, Brent learns to love God's Word and reads and studies it with fervor. In the meantime, his family, who'd like nothing better than to punish the four boys, now in prison, experiences changes in their lives that lead to changed hearts and the capacity for forgiveness. The four gang members also experience changed hearts, despite terrible things that happen to them while in prison. This is a story of how God changes hearts and how even badly wronged people can have a spirit of forgiveness, if only they have the strength of will to ask God for it. Brent begins his God-given commission of telling the people about God's love and forgiveness after his spirit is returned to his body and he awakens from his catatonic state. His first assignment is as the guest speaker at the high school graduation, which would have been his graduating class if he hadn't spent more than three years of his life in a catatonic state. Though his family is relieved that the entire ordeal is over, Brent knows that it's not. In fact, it is just the beginning.

Book Description
In an educational era defined by large school campuses and overcrowded classrooms, it is easy to overlook the era of one-room schools, when teachers filled every role, including janitor, and provided a familylike atmosphere in which children also learned from one another. In Tales from Kentucky One-Room School Teachers, William Lynwood Montell reclaims an important part of Kentucky's social, cultural, and educational heritage, assembling a fun and fascinating collection of schoolroom stories that chronicle a golden era in Kentucky. The firsthand narratives and anecdotes in this collection cover topics such as teacher-student relationships, day-to-day activities, lunchtime foods, students' personal relationships, and, of course, the challenges of teaching in a one-room school. Montell includes tales about fund-raising pie suppers, pranks, outrageous student behavior (such as the quiet little boy whose first "sharing" involved profanity), and variety of other topics. Montell even includes some of his own memories from his days as a pupil in a one-room school. Tales from Kentucky One-Room School Teachers is a delightful glimpse of the history of education.
