Book Description
Excerpt from Elementary Trigonometry I have attempted in this work to explain and illustrate the principles of that portion of Plane Trigonometry which precedes De Moivre's Theorem. The method of explanation is similar to that adopted in my Elementary Algebra. The examples, progressive and easy, have been selected chiefly from College and University Examination Papers, but I am indebted for many to the works of several German writers, especially those of Dienger, Meyer, Weiss, and Wiegand. I have carried on the subject somewhat beyond the limits set by the Regulations for the Examination of Candidates for Honours in the Previous Examination for two reasons: first, because I hope to see those limits extended, secondly, that my work may be more useful to those who are reading the subject in Schools and to Candidates in the Local Examinations. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. Book Description
Excerpt from Elementary Trigonometry: Plane and Spherical Among the methods proposed for the solution of sphér. Ical triangles, attention may be called to the elegant ones furnished by the Gaussian equations. Notwithstanding the ambiguity attaching to the square roots of which these equations are composed, the results present but little difficulty of interpretation, as the examples in the last chapter show. In case, however, of any perplexity, the simple and direct method of solution based on the funda mental equations can be employed to remove it. By using three-place natural functions, a rough approximation can be made, which will show the general shape of the required triangle, and, except in extreme cases, give the values of the required parts within a fraction of a degree.
