Book Description
The study presents the 3D electromagnetic model of layered isotropic and anisotropic media using an induction logging tool. This tool utilizes the electromagnetic wave frequency domain (EWFD) interface with Maxwell's equations. The study shows the effect of conductivity and depth for determining the electric field among single and multiple-layered formations. An induction logging tool operates deep inside the earth surface to measure earth formations and yields real-time formation parameters related to the layer of the earth as a function of depth. COMSOL Multiphysics software designs the induction logging tool, complex voltages are obtained from the 3D COMSOL model for the different layered formation, and MATLAB calculates attenuation and phase shifts. The induction tool is applied to both normal and horizontal directions in the formation to obtain electric fields and complex voltages. The method has an advantage of operating under complicated scenarios including one-, two- and three-layers without knowing the detailed properties.

Theory of Electromagnetic Well Logging
Author: C. Richard Liu
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128040599
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 733
Book Description
Theory of Electromagnetic Well Logging provides a much-needed and complete analytical method for electromagnetic well logging technology. The book presents the physics and mathematics behind the effective measurement of rock properties using boreholes, allowing geophysicists, petrophysisists, geologists and engineers to interpret them in a more rigorous way. Starting with the fundamental concepts, the book then moves on to the more classic subject of wireline induction logging, before exploring the subject of LWD logging, concluding with new thoughts on electromagnetic telemetry. Theory of Electromagnetic Well Logging is the only book offering an in-depth discussion of the analytical and numerical techniques needed for expert use of those new logging techniques. Features in-depth analysis of the analytical and numerical techniques needed for expert use of logging techniques Includes software codes, providing a handy tool for understanding logging tool physics and design of new logging tools Provides a detailed glossary of all key terms within the introductory chapter

Modeling of Resistivity and Acoustic Borehole Logging Measurements Using Finite Element Methods
Author: David Pardo
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0128214651
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 314
Book Description
Modeling of Resistivity and Acoustic Borehole Logging Measurements Using Finite Element Methods provides a comprehensive review of different resistivity and sonic logging instruments used within the oil industry, along with precise and solid mathematical descriptions of the physical equations and corresponding FE formulations that govern these measurements. Additionally, the book emphasizes the main modeling considerations that one needs to incorporate into the simulations in order to obtain reliable and accurate results. Essentially, the formulations and methods described here can also be applied to simulate on-surface geophysical measurements such as seismic or marine controlled-source electromagnetic (CSEM) measurements. Simulation results obtained using FE methods are superior. FE methods employ a mathematical terminology based on FE spaces that facilitate the design of sophisticated formulations and implementations according to the specifics of each problem. This mathematical FE framework provides a highly accurate, robust, and flexible unified environment for the solution of multi-physics problems. Thus, readers will benefit from this resource by learning how to make a variety of logging simulations using a unified FE framework. Provides a complete and unified finite element approach to perform borehole sonic and electromagnetic simulations Includes the latest research in mathematical and implementation content on Finite Element simulations of borehole logging measurements Features a variety of unique simulations and numerical examples that allow the reader to easily learn the main features and limitations that appear when simulating borehole resistivity measurements
