Book Description
The differential cross section was measured for negative-pion-proton elastic scattering at 180 deg. in steps of 0.10 GeV/c or less in the region from 1.6 to 5.3 GeV/c. There is considerable structure in the cross section. This may be interpreted as an interference effect between the resonance amplitude and the nonresonant or background amplitude. There is a dramatic destructive interference at Po = 2.15 GeV/c which is quite interesting as the cross section drops almost two orders of magnitude in this region. Another interesting feature of the experiment is the large narrow peak in the cross section at Po = 5.12 GeV/c. We believe that this is firm evidence for the existence of a nucelon resonance with a mass of (3245 plus or minus 10) MeV. This N* (3245) has a full width at half-maximum of less than 35 MeV. The width of the resonance is about 1% of its mass. Parities and the quantity X(J + 1/2) are given for various N* resonances where X is the elasticity and J is the spin of the resonance. (Author).

Book Description
Several experiments have measured nominally-charge-symmetric scattering of pions from tritium ([sup 3]H) and [sup 3]He. These experiments have covered incident pion energies from 142 MeV to 295 MeV and scattering angles up to 110[degrees] in the laboratory. The results have been used to study charge-symmetry breaking and nuclear scattering systematics. In the work I have extended these measurements to angles near 180[degrees] for pion energies of 142 MeV, 180 MeV, 220 MeV, and 256 MeV, which bracket the [Delta][sub 33] pion-nucleon resonance. This is the most extensive set of [pi]T and [pi][sup 3]He data in this kinematical region. It will allow tests of scattering theory of pion-nucleus interactions and charge-symmetry breaking in back-angle scattering, and, within the limits of these two theories, it may help improve our understanding of the structure of these nuclei.

Book Description
Written by experts from London’s renowned Royal Free Hospital, Textbook of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers a comprehensive overview of the vast topic of reconstructive plastic surgery and its various subspecialties for introductory plastic surgery and surgical science courses. The book comprises five sections covering the fundamental principles of plastic surgery, cancer, burns and trauma, paediatric plastic surgery and aesthetic surgery, and covers the breadth of knowledge that students need to further their career in this exciting field. Additional coverage of areas in which reconstructive surgery techniques are called upon includes abdominal wall reconstruction, ear reconstruction and genital reconstruction. A chapter on aesthetic surgery includes facial aesthetic surgery and blepharoplasty, aesthetic breast surgery, body contouring and the evolution of hair transplantation. The broad scope of this volume and attention to often neglected specialisms such as military plastic surgery make this a unique contribution to the field. Heavily illustrated throughout, Textbook of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is essential reading for anyone interested in furthering their knowledge of this exciting field. Book Description
This unique volume gives an accurate and very detailed description of the functioning and operation of basic nuclear reactors, as emerging from yet unpublished papers by Nobel Laureate Enrico Fermi. In the first part, the entire course of lectures on Neutron Physics delivered by Fermi at Los Alamos is reported, according to the version made by Anthony P French. Here, the fundamental physical phenomena are described very clearly and comprehensively, giving the appropriate physics grounds for the functioning of nuclear piles. In the second part, all the patents issued by Fermi (and coworkers) on the functioning, construction and operation of several different kinds of nuclear reactors are reported. Here, the main engineering problems are encountered and solved by employing simple and practical methods, which are described in detail. This seminal work mainly caters to students, teachers and researchers working in nuclear physics and engineering, but it is of invaluable interest to historians of physics too, since the material presented here is entirely novel.
