Book Description
Juan Goytisolo is arguably Spain’s foremost contemporary novelist. This book is one of the few major studies in English to examine all of his mature works, from Señas de identidad in 1966 to Las semanas del jardín, published in 1997. It focuses on the interface between the thematic content of the novels and its formal expression, viewing this as the crucial nexus of their meaning. Goytisolo’s writing is, in his own words, a "commitment of myself ... for a transformation of the world". The Poetics of Contagion dissects the nature of the relationship between writer and reader to show how Goytisolo’s political commitment is reflected in his work.

Book Description
Juan Luis Martínez’s Philosophical Poetics is the first English-language monograph on this Chilean visual artist and poet (1942–1993). It has two principal aims: first, to introduce Martínez’s poetry and radical aesthetics to English-speaking audiences, and second, to carefully analyze key aspects of his literary production. The readings undertaken in this book explore Martínez’s intricate textual formalisms, the self-effacement that characterizes his poetry, and the tension between his local (Latin American, Chilean) aspect and the cosmopolitanism or transnationalism that insists on the global relevance of his work. Through his artistic engagement with a number of esoteric concepts—for example, his recuperation of pataphysical “logic” and Oulipian combinatorics, mathematical reasoning, Eastern thought, and the historical avant-gardes—Martínez creates a rigorous quasi-system of citation and erasure that is a philosophical poetics as well as a poetic philosophy. Juan Luis Martínez’s Philosophical Poetics thus addresses all major publications by this groundbreaking Chilean artist and poet in order to read his difficult, experimental texts by focusing on the tension he creates between philosophical, political, literary, and scientific discourses.

Book Description
This volume provides readers with a simple, non-technical introduction to correspondence analysis (CA), a technique for summarily describing the relationships among categorical variables in large tables. It begins with the history and logic of CA. The author shows readers the steps to the analysis: category profiles and masses are computed, the distances between these points calculated and the best-fitting space of n-dimensions located. There are glossaries on appropriate programs from SAS and SPSS for doing CA and the book concludes with a comparison of CA and log-linear models.
