Notre recherche vise à explorer les liens qu'entretiennent les systèmes mnésiques et la production de textes chez des rédacteurs non experts. Il s'agit de déterminer si les connaissances stockées en Mémoire à Long Terme influencent la gestion de l'activité rédactionnelle, assurée par la Mémoire de Travail. D'autre part, nous avons cherché à préciser le rôle des différentes composantes de la MDT pendant une activité de génération de textes à partir de mots ou d'images. Nous nous sommes appuyée sur le modèle de Baddeley et Hitch (1974) et sur les modèles de production écrite appliqués au développement (Bereiter & Scardamalia, 1987 ; Berninger & Swanson, 1994), dans le cadre des théories capacitaires de production de textes (McCutchen, 1996). La tâche proposée consiste à présenter à des enfants de CM1 des séries de mots écrits ou images, reliés ou non sémantiquement, à partir desquelles ils doivent produire des textes en utilisant le plus d'éléments fournis. Les résultats montrent, conformément aux recherches antérieures, que la mise à disposition d'éléments cohérents facilite le rappel et la production de texte. Les connaissances en MLT font diminuer, ou du moins n'augmentent pas, la charge pesant sur la MDT. D'autre part, les images sont mieux rappelées et mieux intégrées dans des textes que les mots seuls. Accompagnées du mot écrit, elles améliorent également la qualité des productions, puisqu'elles exercent moins de contraintes sur la boucle phonologique que les mots seuls. Il apparait également qu'un bon niveau en orthographe et en compréhension écrite est synonyme de bonnes performances en génération de textes. Ces résultats sont interprétés dans le cadre des théories capacitaires de production écrite. Les enfants les plus performants sont ceux qui gèrent plus efficacement les contraintes pesant sur la MDT.
