Quantification of Cognitive Process Degradation While Mobile, Attributable to the Environmental Stressors Endurance, Vibration, and Noise

Publisher:
ISBN:

Languages : en
Pages : 104
Book Description
Operator cognitive performance was quantified in an off-road environment by repeatedly administering a battery of cognitive measures to assess the genus and degree of performance while mobile. Environmental stressors referred to as endurance, tracked vehicle vibration per intensity, and noise were recorded over the course of one day per participant (n=18). Vibration conditions presented were varying amplitudes approximating accelerations of 0.88 g by a frequency of 3 cycles per second (cps), 0.65 g by 4 cps, and 0.03 g by 12.5 cps. Observed collectively, the predictor variables returned a multiple R value for the dependent variable percent correct of 0.733 (p

Whole Body Vibrations
Author: Redha Taiar
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1351013610
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 241
Book Description
Whole Body Vibrations: Physical and Biological Effects on the Human Body allows an understanding about the qualities and disadvantages of vibration exposure on the human body with a biomechanical and medical perspective. It offers a comprehensive range of principles, methods, techniques and tools to provide the reader with a clear knowledge of the impact of vibration on human tissues and physiological processes. The text considers physical, mechanical and biomechanical aspects and it is illustrated by key application domains such as sports and medicine. Consisting of 11 chapters in total, the first three chapters provide useful tools for measuring, generating, simulating and processing vibration signals. The following seven chapters are applications in different fields of expertise, from performance to health, with localized or global effects. Since unfortunately there are undesirable effects from the exposure to mechanical vibrations, a final chapter is dedicated to this issue. Engineers, researchers and students from biomedical engineering and health sciences, as well as industrial professionals can profit from this compendium of knowledge about mechanical vibration applied to the human body. Provides biomechanical and medical perspectives to understanding the qualities and disadvantages of vibration exposure on the human body Offers a range of principles, methods, techniques, and tools to evaluate the impact of vibration on human tissues and physiological processes Explores mechanical vibration techniques used to improve human performance Discusses the strong association between health and human well-being Explores physical, mechanical, and biomechanical aspects of vibration exposure in domains such as sports and medicine

Workload Transition
Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 030904796X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 303
Book Description
Workload transition is a potentially crucial problem in work situations wherein operators are faced with abrupt changes in task demands. People involved include military combat personnel, air-traffic controllers, medical personnel in emergency rooms, and long-distance drivers. They must be able to respond efficiently to sudden increases in workload imposed by a failure, crisis, or other, often unexpected, event. This book provides a systematic evaluation of workload transition. It focuses on a broad spectrum of activities ranging from team cooperation to the maintenance of this problem on a theoretical level and offers several practical solutions.

Aeromedical Aspects of Vibration and Noise
Author: J. C. Guignard
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aerodynamic noise
Languages : en
Pages : 292
Book Description
Vibration and noise are treated separately in Parts One and Two of this volume; while Part Three deals with the special aeromedical problem of auditory perception in aircrew and ground support personnel and its conservation. Part Four is a glossary of relevant terms. This division of the subject matter recognises that in practice vibration and noise are conveniently studied, measured and controlled as separate entities. It should, however, be borne in mind that these conditions rarely affect man singly. They are commonly present at the same time; and vibration and noise may often be associated with different kinds of environmental agent, such as heat, to make up a combined environmental stress. The human response to such combinations of stressful agents is still a largely neglected field of research.
