Book Description
Four locally grown varieties of tomato; BINA-3, BARI-3, Bahar, Maple and one Indian variety; Pussa Rubby (PR) were selected in this study to observe the effects of growth regulators(in different concentrations&combinations)on shoot initiation and root induction. MS media containing 1.5mg/l BAP and 0.2mg/l IAA showed best result with lowest callus formation and increased number of shoot in all the varieties. In this medium the best response was found for Maple(93.33%)followed by Pussa Ruby(86.67%)and for the other varieties such as BARI-3, BINA-3& Bahar gave almost similar response to that combination of the medium. The survival response of all varieties was in between 80-90%..BINA-3 showed highest number of fruits per plant while BINA-3 and BARI-3 showed highest average number of seeds per fruit. Finally, it was found that 1.5 mg/l BAP with 0.2mg/l IAA containing MS media is better for shoots induction and 0.2mg/l IAA containing 1/2 strength MS media is better for root formation in all five varieties. Each experiment was conducted three times(n=3).Regeneration percentages were analyzed by using SPSS(version 16)& significant differences among means were assessed by the Duncan test(P

Book Description
What are plant growth regulators? In the title, and throughout the text, we have adopted this expression to describe a population of endogenous molecules and synthetic compounds of similar structure that are be lieved to play important roles in the regulation of plant differentiation and development. For many years, plant scientists have endeavoured to understand the nature and action of plant growth regulators and, as a result, an awesome quantity of written material now exists describing these chemicals and their effects. In this book we have aimed to distil this wealth of information into a more digestible form, and in particular we have focused our attention on a critical appraisal of the literature. The past few years have witnessed a change of emphasis in plant growth regulator research, which has been fuelled by powerful new techniques in molecular and cell biology. Today we can do more than just apply a plant growth regulator and quantify its effects; we have reached an exciting crossroads where plant scientists, molecular bio logists and chemists can pool their expertise and apply it to the out standing problems in this area. The combination of these three disciplines within the book is clear evidence of this. In keeping with a volume of this size, we have assumed that the reader has a sound knowledge of plant physiology and biochemistry. However, wherever possible, we have highlighted useful reviews which provide background information, along with recent publications that have contributed significantly to the literature.

Book Description
A great fascination for biologists, the study of embryo development provides indispensable information concerning the origins of the various forms and structures that make up an organism, and our ever-increasing knowledge gained through the study of plant embryology promises to lead to the development of numerous useful applications. In Plant Embryo Culture: Methods and Protocols, expert researchers from the field provide a ready source of information for culturing zygotic embryos for different types of studies, both theoretical and practical. The book’s main sections examine a wide range of related topics, including the culture of zygotic embryos for developmental studies, the application of embryo culture techniques focusing on embryo rescue methods, cryopreservation of zygotic embryos, the use of zygotic embryos as explants for somatic embryogenesis and organogenesis, as well as transformation protocols using zygotic embryos as starting material. Written in the highly successful Methods in Molecular BiologyTM series format, the detailed chapters include introductions to their respective topics, lists of the necessary materials and reagents, step-by-step, readily reproducible laboratory protocols, and vital notes on troubleshooting and avoiding known pitfalls. Authoritative and convenient, Plant Embryo Culture: Methods and Protocols serves as a key reference that can be used by scientists of all backgrounds to help develop their own customized methods for many different species and for a variety of purposes.

Book Description
The entire range of the developmental process in plants is regulated by a shift in the hormonal concentration, tissue sensitivity and their interaction with the factors operating around the plants. Phytohormones play a crucial role in regulating the direction of plant in a coordinated fashion in association with metabolism that provides energy and the building blocks to generate the form that we recognize as a plant. Out of the recognized hormones, attention has largely been focused on Auxins, Gibberellins, Cytokinins, Abscisic acid, Ethylene and more recently on Brassinosteroids. In this book we are providing the information about a brassinosteroids that again confirm its status as phytohormones because it has significant impact on various aspects of the plant life and its ubiquitous distribution throughout the plant kingdom. Brassinosteroids are generating a significant impact on plant growth and development, photosynthesis, transpiration, ion uptake and transport, induces specific changes in leaf anatomy and chloroplast structure. This book is not an encyclopedia of reviews but includes a selected collection of newly written, integrated, illustrated reviews describing our knowledge of brassinosteroids. The aim of this book is to tell all about brassinosteroids, by the present time. The various chapters incorporate both theoretical and practical aspects and may serve as baseline information for future researches through which significant development is possible. It is intended that this book will be useful to the students, teachers and researchers, both in universities and research institutes, especially in relation to biological and agricultural sciences.
