Your Goal Guide
Author: Debra Eckerling
Publisher: Mango
ISBN: 9781642501506
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 224
Book Description
While most goal-setting books focus on helping people achieve their goals, only Your Goal Guide starts with that first, crucial step: helping professionals figure out what it is they actually want. In this book, author Debra Eckerling take readers through The D*E*B Method, her brainstorming and task-based system. It's a roadmap for setting goals, and then creating a plan to achieve them. D*E*B stands for: Determine Your Mission, Explore Your Options, Brainstorm Your Path. Numerous factors stop people from accomplishing their goals. They don't give their goals enough thought, jump in head-first, and waste a lot of time. They spend too much time overthinking their goals, and, even, if they manage to get started, they abandon the project midway, since it was taking way too long. They try to figure out their goals in their head and get nowhere; they have no plan. People are constantly re-evaluating their professional - and personal - situation. Then, they get to the point where they must take action, whether it's due to circumstance (their job is being eliminated, they're in an unhealthy work environment, they have to move), choice (they want to start or grow their own business, it's time for a career change), or both (they want and need to increase their income). But how? The challenge is to figure out how to set and reach your goals, while the rest of the world - and the rest of your life - is business as usual. Your Goal Guide, by Debra Eckerling, is a roadmap that combines writing exercises with systems to help individuals set, plan, and achieve their professional and personal goals.

Pages : 193
Book Description
Learn from Kids, Peers, and the World to Transform Professional Learning What can kids teach us about educational practices? It turns out, plenty. In Evolving Learner, successful PL is framed through three critical sources: learning from kids, from peers, and from the world. Woven throughout the book are tangible connections to cycles of inquiry where a harmonious balance is the ultimate goal when students are engaged in inquiry for deeper learning and teachers are engaged in a parallel process to improve their practice. The authors’ unique framework shifts away from factory model "PD" and transforms it into experiences tailored to kids’ and adult learners’ specific needs. Clear strategies for accomplishing PL are presented through A framework where both students and teachers are active agents of learning Cycles of inquiry to empower students to become the owners of learning Techniques to make thinking visible for teachers and students Cutting edge coverage of applying technology to professional learning including the use of social media, gamification, and digital badges The time is right to reclaim ownership of your professional learning: Evolving Learner is an essential guide for embarking on this journey.

Guide to the Study of Ancient Magic
Author: David Frankfurter
Publisher: BRILL
ISBN: 9004390758
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 817
Book Description
In the midst of academic debates about the utility of the term “magic” and the cultural meaning of ancient words like mageia or khesheph, this Guide to the Study of Ancient Magic seeks to advance the discussion by separating out three topics essential to the very idea of magic. The three major sections of this volume address (1) indigenous terminologies for ambiguous or illicit ritual in antiquity; (2) the ancient texts, manuals, and artifacts commonly designated “magical” or used to represent ancient magic; and (3) a series of contexts, from the written word to materiality itself, to which the term “magic” might usefully pertain. The individual essays in this volume cover most of Mediterranean and Near Eastern antiquity, with essays by both established and emergent scholars of ancient religions. In a burgeoning field of “magic studies” trying both to preserve and to justify critically the category itself, this volume brings new clarity and provocative insights. This will be an indispensable resource to all interested in magic in the Bible and the Ancient Near East, ancient Greece and Rome, Early Christianity and Judaism, Egypt through the Christian period, and also comparative and critical theory. Contributors are: Magali Bailliot, Gideon Bohak, Véronique Dasen, Albert de Jong, Jacco Dieleman, Esther Eidinow, David Frankfurter, Fritz Graf, Yuval Harari, Naomi Janowitz, Sarah Iles Johnston, Roy D. Kotansky, Arpad M. Nagy, Daniel Schwemer, Joseph E. Sanzo, Jacques van der Vliet, Andrew Wilburn.

Theurgy and the Soul
Author: Gregory Shaw
Publisher: Angelico Press / Sophia Perennis
ISBN: 9781621380726
Category : Philosophy
Languages : en
Pages : 350
Book Description
Iamblichus was once considered one of the great philosophers. The Emperor Julian followed Iamblichus's teachings to guide the restoration of traditional pagan cults in his campaign against Christianity. Although Julian was unsuccessful, Iamblichus's ideas persisted well into the Middle Ages and beyond. His vision of a hierarchical cosmos united by divine ritual became the dominant worldview for the entire medieval world. Even Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote that he expected a reading of Iamblichus to cause a "revival in the churches." But modern scholars have dismissed him, seeing theurgy as ritual magic or "manipulation of the gods." Shaw, however, shows that theurgy was a subtle and intellectually sophisticated attempt to apply Platonic and Pythagorean teachings to the full expression of human existence in the material world.
