Book Description
This book primarily tries to bring out the analogy between the conceptual and methodological discourses on the theme of the other. The term 'Other' here refers to the oppressed sections of the society. It may be dalits, women, indigenous or ethnic communities. Since we are living in a multicultural and multilingual society, we should share our views with others on a platform where issues of the marginalized people are addressed by different scholars following different methods and techniques. Though there are various policies and plans for the welfare of the downtrodden, hardly any change can be seen at the micro-level structure of the society. There are studies which highlighted the problems and ethos of the downtrodden sections, but a majority of those studies neglected the marginalized groups. Hence, we felt the need to highlight the issues and concerns of these groups in a wider context and started thinking on the theme 'Ethnographic Discourse of the Other: Conceptual and Methodological Issues'. This volume attempts to discuss and theorize the pragmatic concepts and issues related to the marginalized groups in contemporary societies in South Asia. This book is interdisciplinary in nature and will be useful to scholars and students of Anthropology, Sociology, Linguistics, Social Work, Culture Studies, Gender Studies and Philosophy. It is widely applicable to all sections of the oppressed socially, economically, culturally, academically, politically and other wise.

Book Description
This book brings together a unique collection of theoretical and empirical analyses of women’s access to land, labour and livelihoods in contemporary India. The authors recognize that gender relations must be viewed intersectionally, along with other social relationships such as caste, ethnicity, religion, sexuality and age, in order to inform an integrated analysis of women’s persistent disadvantage in India. The chapters examine a diverse range of rural and urban livelihoods within sectors such as tea plantations, nursing, hair salons, sex work and waste collection. Documenting the shifts in these sectors in the context of economic liberalization, the authors offer insights on the challenges of development interventions as women negotiate shifts in their livelihood options. Written to engage, the contributions to this book will be of interest both to the general reader and to academics and practitioners in development and gender/women’s studies.

Book Description
State of India’s Livelihoods Report (SOIL Report) is an annual publication that addresses contemporary issues in the livelihoods sector. It is the only document that aggregates the experiences and challenges of this sector, analyses case studies and reports progress of both government-run and the privately run programmes. This report is released each year during the Livelihoods Asia Summit, which is a pan-Asia platform that presents opportunities for cross-learning and sharing of unique experiences within the countries in this region. While some core chapters are continued from the previous years’ reports in order to provide stability to the structure of the report, the authors have covered some interesting new themes. An overview of the economic situation in the past years and a concluding chapter on dealing with equity and inclusion in growth are part of this year’s report. In addition to this, two chapters on agricultural livelihoods and tribal livelihoods are new areas of in-depth focus. The report also covers policies, legal and fiscal framework for livelihoods, and key government programmes and schemes. Further, the authors have re-evaluated the employment and skills landscape, CSR and FPOs after a year’s gap.
