Book Description
Abstract: Food preparation and eating tips especially designed for cancer patients are provided. Suggestions include how to add calories, easy to prepare dishes, and what foods are low in fiber. The special needs and strains that cancer therapy and the disease, itself, place on the body require unique dietary considerations. Protein and calorie needs are greater during an illness. A 200-300 calorie a day increase, including 80-90 additional grams of protein is recommended. However, many patients lose their appetites and find many foods unappealing. Eat well when you desire foods; nutrients can be stored in the body for later use. Stay away from foods that don't interest you: if red meat is no longer appealing, eat turkey or chicken. Eat small meals often and keep snacks handy. Avoid greasy foods and rich sauces. Tastes change, tart foods such as lemon juice and vinegar enhance a food's flavor.
