Book Description
A poetry collection inspired by the poet’s time in England, Japan and Spain.Eloquently written in an approachable style that will appeal to a wide range of readers.A thought-provoking collection that is insightful, surprising and compelling. Inspired by the poet’s time in England, Japan and Spain, the poems in Dynamo Memory explore how memories interact with present day realities and shape them into a new perspective. The poems are triggered by sharply focused observation of the present and then are taken in new directions that reveal the extraordinary that underlies the ordinary. The myriad aspects of reality are thrown into sharp relief, celebrating their colourful and varied facets whilst at the same time not flinching from their darker side. Each poem is a voyage of discovery, opening a window onto a world that is at once familiar and strange. Dynamo Memory is a compelling collection full of revelations that are often deeply moving, but also leavened by a wry sense of humour, written in an immediate style that will appeal to a broad range of readers. “Lemons like lanterns in the trees, tired green leaves, darkening sky.”

Book Description
This book contains the papers selected by the Scientific Committee and represented at the XIII International Conference "Solar-Terrestrial Relations and Physics of Earthquake Precursors", which was hold at the Institute of Cosmophysical Research and Radio Wave Propagation, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kamchatka. The papers describe the investigation results in the fields of atmosphere, ionosphere and magnetosphere physics. Mechanisms of transformation of solar wind energy into the energy of magnetospheric-ionospheric processes, effects of the processes in the Earth core on the lower and upper atmosphere, seismo-electromagnetic, seismo-electric and seismo-acoustic effects at different frequency ranges in the Earth crust, atmosphere and ionosphere are under consideration. Modern methods for geophysical data collection, processing, transfer and exchange as well as organisation issues of seismic activity monitoring are presented. The Conference "Solar-Terrestrial Relations and Physics of Earthquake Precursors" has 25 years of history. Scientists from Russia, Japan, Hungary, China, India, USA and other countries participate in it. In a traditional way, the Conference includes three sections: atmosphere physics, geophysical fields and their interaction, physics of earthquake precursors.

Book Description
This book examines the field of parallel database management systems and illustrates the great variety of solutions based on a shared-storage or a shared-nothing architecture. Constantly dropping memory prices and the desire to operate with low-latency responses on large sets of data paved the way for main memory-based parallel database management systems. However, this area is currently dominated by the shared-nothing approach in order to preserve the in-memory performance advantage by processing data locally on each server. The main argument this book makes is that such an unilateral development will cease due to the combination of the following three trends: a) Today’s network technology features remote direct memory access (RDMA) and narrows the performance gap between accessing main memory on a server and of a remote server to and even below a single order of magnitude. b) Modern storage systems scale gracefully, are elastic and provide high-availability. c) A modern storage system such as Stanford’s RAM Cloud even keeps all data resident in the main memory. Exploiting these characteristics in the context of a main memory-based parallel database management system is desirable. The book demonstrates that the advent of RDMA-enabled network technology makes the creation of a parallel main memory DBMS based on a shared-storage approach feasible.

Book Description
The increasing costs of creating and maintaining infrastructures for delivering services to consumers have led to the emergence of cloud based third party service providers renting networks, computation power, storage, and even entire software application suites. On the other hand, service customers demand competitive pricing, service level agreements, and increased flexibility and scalability. Service consumers also expect process and data security, 24/7 service availability, and compliance with privacy regulations. This book focuses on such challenges associated with the design, implementation, deployment, and management of data and software as a service. The 12 papers presented in this volume were contributed by leaders in academia and industry, and were reviewed and supervised by an expert editorial board. They describe cutting-edge approaches in areas like service design, service security, service optimization, and service migration.

Book Description
Large Scale and Big Data: Processing and Management provides readers with a central source of reference on the data management techniques currently available for large-scale data processing. Presenting chapters written by leading researchers, academics, and practitioners, it addresses the fundamental challenges associated with Big Data processing tools and techniques across a range of computing environments. The book begins by discussing the basic concepts and tools of large-scale Big Data processing and cloud computing. It also provides an overview of different programming models and cloud-based deployment models. The book’s second section examines the usage of advanced Big Data processing techniques in different domains, including semantic web, graph processing, and stream processing. The third section discusses advanced topics of Big Data processing such as consistency management, privacy, and security. Supplying a comprehensive summary from both the research and applied perspectives, the book covers recent research discoveries and applications, making it an ideal reference for a wide range of audiences, including researchers and academics working on databases, data mining, and web scale data processing. After reading this book, you will gain a fundamental understanding of how to use Big Data-processing tools and techniques effectively across application domains. Coverage includes cloud data management architectures, big data analytics visualization, data management, analytics for vast amounts of unstructured data, clustering, classification, link analysis of big data, scalable data mining, and machine learning techniques.
