Book Description
Almost a hundred years ago, a major terrestrial event reshaped the earth’s coastlines. Goodbye entire cities. Goodbye entire states. Goodbye entire countries. And when the authorities outlawed salvaging from these sunken sites, why say hello to a new breed of criminal: underwater reclamation specialists. Even a hundred years later, there’s still a whole lot of loot for the reclaiming. After the wake of dead bodies left in the Seattle Isles, Isa and Puo retreat to Europe to gain some distance while things settle down. But even on another continent, the Ghost of Winn haunts Isa everywhere she goes. And to make matters worse, Puo won’t shut up about it. Determined to prove nothing’s wrong, Isa accepts their biggest job yet from a mysterious employer with deep pockets. The employer’s only condition: the inclusion of Liáng, an attractive, well-muscled operative to be embedded with their team. As the gravity of what Isa took on weighs on them, they learn more about this mysterious employer and that failure isn’t an option—not with the kind of bill they’re racking up. Meanwhile, the authorities are closing in as Isa’s crew isn’t getting any closer to pulling off their job. With options dwindling, it’s time to try something stupid and reckless—the Ghost of Winn be damned. Sunken City Capers is a fun post-apocalyptic series with no zombies, just criminals and mischievous ne’er-do-wells. Book Description
The 9 stories in this collection explore the magic and mystery of strange lands populated not just by ordinary boys and girls but also by elves, fairies, kelpies, and a queen with screaming hair! In “Clem’s Dream,” a boy loses his dream and asks the Slipper, Tooth, Apple, Bread, and Water Fairies to help get it back for him. In “The Queen With Screaming Hair,” 5-year-old Princess Christina of Laurestinia snips off the white whiskers of the all-powerful palace cat, Crimplesham, who then transforms her golden hair into a hundred teasing, spiteful voices. And in the title story, Jason can see the patterns in the stars and remember every tune he ever whistled. When the wind forgets its favorite song, Jason reminds him and is granted a wish in return. He asks for a rainbow of his own to keep in his pocket, but will Jason be able to hold onto it? These inventive, thought-provoking adventures remind us of the magic of language and its power to educate and enchant. This ebook features illustrations by Margaret Walty and a personal history of Joan Aiken including rare images from the author’s estate.

Book Description
This 1989 second volume of Professor Williams' translation of al-Tabarī's account of the early 'Abbāsī empire focuses on the reigns of the son - al-Mahdī - and grandsons - al-Hadi and Hārūn al-Rashīd - of Caliph al-Mansūr, the subject of the first volume. This was the 'Golden Prime' of the empire, before the civil war between the sons of al-Rashīd and the movement of the capital away from Baghdad. Also considered is the story of the Persian aristocratic family, the Barmakis, who became the real rulers under the indolent al-Rashīd, until he destroyed them in a rage which astonished his contemporaries. The events are narrated through the reminiscences of eyewitnesses, woven together by the great historiographer al-Tabarī (d. 923). The translator of the volume is an Islamicist who has lived many years in the Arab world and has a rare knowledge of its culture and literature.
