Book Description
This is a book written on a spur of the moment and under unique circumstances which led to a totally out-of-character plan to travel the world on a shoe-string budget. This book recounts the triumphs and travails of this two-year idea becoming a reality. Their extravagant plan was entirely out of the ordinary for a teacher and a probation officer, as neither had been particularly adventurous beforehand. But sometimes dreams can be a powerful driving force, and one which led these two on one of the most fantastic, and chaotic, journeys that they could ever have imagined.

Book Description
Although we naturally sense all the dangers of our environment through our body and subconscious, we no longer know how to use these perceptions in order to ensure our own safety. Animals are still able to do this and this enables them to be warned and to flee before the outbreak of natural disasters. However, by learning to benefit from their dreams, humans can surpass animals in this field. The fruit of more than 20 years of research, this book explains a method that is accessible to everyone, that enables the links between the body, conscious and subconscious to be re-established, in order to receive more information on the dangers of our environment. Once communication has been re-established between the body and the subconscious, it turns out that human beings are far superior to animals and to all existing technologies in sensing all kinds of dangers, whether they be natural, human or technological. By using the technique that is explained in this book, you will learn how to ‘retrieve’ information available to you in dreams, that is important for the safety of you and the people close to you. Through this you will also be able to, for example: - avoid accidental death by escaping before the outbreak of a natural disaster: earthquake, volcanic eruption, landslide, flood, storm, tidal wave, avalanche, tornado, etc. ; - foil the plans of attackers, terrorists, thieves, rapists or burglars; - know, before going away, for example by boat or plane, if you are going to arrive safe and sound at your destination or if it would be better to cancel this trip because of an attack, shipwreck, accident or natural disaster… ; - sense many other traps and dangers and avoid them. - the most gifted among you will also be able to develop a greater sensitivity and intuition directly in a waking state, which will enable you to react even more effectively to the dangers of your environment. - you will also learn not to become anxious for no reason when you have simple nightmares, because you will have learnt to detect what triggers them in you and you will thereby know how to distinguish them from true warning dreams of natural disasters, attacks, burglaries, accidents at nuclear power stations, etc.

Book Description
Egypt has placed its hopes on developing its vast and empty deserts as the ultimate solution to the country’s problems. New cities, new farms, new industrial zones, new tourism resorts, and new development corridors, all have been promoted for over half a century to create a modern Egypt and to pull tens of millions of people away from the increasingly crowded Nile Valley into the desert hinterland. The results, in spite of colossal expenditures and ever-grander government pronouncements, have been meager at best, and today Egypt’s desert is littered with stalled schemes, abandoned projects, and forlorn dreams. It also remains stubbornly uninhabited. Egypt’s Desert Dreams is the first attempt of its kind to look at Egypt’s desert development in its entirety. It recounts the failures of governmental schemes, analyzes why they have failed, and exposes the main winners of Egypt’s desert projects, as well as the underlying narratives and political necessities behind it, even in the post-revolutionary era. It also shows that all is not lost, and that there are alternative paths that Egypt could take.

Book Description
"This fascinating little volume explores the stuff that dreams are made of and the role the pandemic is playing in them. The dreams from Barrett's survey are riveting vignettes--from terrifying to touching to hilarious. Her decades of scientific research and clinical practice inform incisive commentary on what these dreams reveal about society's response. She offers simple exercises for managing anxieties over COVID-19 and for inspiring adaption in this unique period of history. A great read!" -Amy Tan, author of The Joy Luck Club DREAM: I looked down at my stomach and saw dark blue stripes. I "remembered" these were the first sign of being infected with COVID-19. DREAM: My home was a Covid-19 test center. People weren't wearing masks. I'm taken aback because I wasn't asked to be a test site. I'm worried that my husband and son (who actually lives out of state) will catch it because of my job as a healthcare worker. DREAM: I was a giant antibody. I was so angry about COVID-19 that it gave me superpowers, and I rampaged around attacking all the virus I could find. I woke so energized! Since the COVID-19 pandemic swept around the world, people have reported unusually a vivid and bizarre dream lives. The virus itself is the star of many--literally or in one of its metaphoric guises. As a dream researcher at Harvard Medical School, Deirdre Barrett was immediately curious to see what our dream lives would tell us about our deepest reactions to this unprecedented disaster. Pandemic Dreams draws on her survey of over 9,000 dreams about the COVID-19 crisis. It describes how dreaming has reflected each aspect of the pandemic: fear of catching the virus, reactions to sheltering at home, work changes, homeschooling, and an individual's increased isolation or crowding. Some patterns are quite similar to other crises Dr. Barrett has studied such as 9/11, Kuwaitis during the Iraqi Occupation, POWs in WWII Nazi prison camps, and Middle Easterners during the Arab Spring. There are some very distinctive metaphors for COVID-19, however: bug-attack dreams and ones of invisible monsters. These reflect that this crisis is less visible or concrete than others we have faced. Over the past three months, dreams have progressed from fearful depictions of the mysterious new threat . . . to impatience with restrictions . . . to more fear again as the world begins to reopen. And dreams have just begun to consider the big picture: how society may change. The book offers guidance on how we can best utilize our newly supercharged dream lives to aid us through the crisis and beyond. It explains practical exercises for dream interpretation, reduction of nightmares, and incubation of helpful, problem-solving dreams. It also examines the larger arena of what these collective dreams tell us about our instinctive, unconscious responses to the threat and how we might integrate them for more livable policies through these times. Deirdre Barrett, PhD is a dream researcher at Harvard Medical School. She has written five books including Pandemic Dreams and The Committee of Sleep, and edited four including Trauma and Dreams. She is Past President of The International Association for the Study of Dreams and editor of its journal, DREAMING.

Book Description
Through her dreams and visions and those of a few friends, Author Kathryn Hilton reveals the lost Continent of Atlantis and other major earth changes that will occur in the future. Mostly about the U.S.A., there is information about a few other places on the planet. Mt. Fujiyama explodes, destroying the island of Japan, setting up a chain of reactions around the Pacific. At end of the chain, Mt. McKinley erupts in Alaska, causing a tidal wave that will submerge the state of California and part of neighboring states. In Europe the submerged city of Athenai surfaces in the Mediteranean Sea as the coastline of Greece dramatically increases in size. As the Sea becomes smaller, other areas of land will rise. The island of Atlantis, landlocked for centuries, appears as half of South Carolina and part of North Carolina become submerged. A tidal wave hits New York City, flooding Times Square and most of Manhattan. Seattle is destroyed by a large earthquake and rebuilt. From the East Coast to the West Coast, many states are covered to give an overall view of what will happen to the United States. With the Moon changing position, a planetary quake, and rotation of the planet temporarily stopping, creating darkness over half the Earth, this book gives a comprehensive look at the future of our world. After these disasters have ended, there will be no more for 700 years.

Book Description
Prolonged Psychosocial Effects of Disaster: A Study of Buffalo Creek disseminates the findings of an investigation into the psychosocial effects of a specific disaster - the collapse of a slag dam that inundated the valley of Buffalo Creek in West Virginia on February 26, 1972. Based on interviews with more than 600 men, women, and children for whom psychic impairment was claimed, this volume examines the relationships between the individual disaster experiences of the survivors and their later psychological functioning. Comprised of nine chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the psychosocial consequences of disasters and an account of the Buffalo Creek disaster itself, along with the subsequent lawsuit against the coal company. The next chapter explains how the psychopathology and stress of the survivors were scaled and gives some information regarding the reliability and validity of the data. Symptoms, sleep problems, family disruption, and traumatic dreams are considered. The findings on these data and the follow-up studies are discussed. The final chapter contains a summary of the findings and proposes specific suggestions as well as a model for future disaster studies. This book will be of most practical importance to mental health scientists and clinicians working with the victims of stress and disaster, and should also be of considerable interest to social and behavioral scientists and, more generally, to administrators of government activities.
