Benthic Ecology of the High Arctic Deep-sea
Author: Allen Z. Paul
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Aquatic ecology
Languages : en
Pages : 716
Book Description
The investigation is an analyses of seventy-five quantitative benthic samples collected by the Mini-LUBS, twenty-eight qualitative benthic samples collected with the Small Biological Trawl, and fifty-two bottom camera stations taken from Flethcer's Ice Island, T-3 while it was drifting over the Alpha Cordillera region of the High Arctic Ocean during October 1969 through February 1970 and in March 1972. The depth range was 1000 to 2500 m. Benthic foraminiferans are responsible for about 53 per cent, bivalves for 27 per cent, sponges for 7 percent, and polychaetes for 5 per cent of the total biomass. Other groups make up the remaining 8 per cent. In numbers, excluding Foraminifera, polychaetes are 42 per cent, nematodes 16 per cent, sponges 11 per cent, and bivalves 8 per cent of the total fauna. The remaining 23 per cent is composed of thirteen other taxa. (Modified author abstract) Portions of this document are not fully legible.
