Book Description
The Bodie Mining District was established in 1860 after the discovery of gold deposits in the area. Bodie’s largest boom ended ust over twenty years later, but the town survived into the twentieth century supported by a few small but steady mines. Mining ended with World War II. What remained of the town became a state park in 1964. In Bodie’s Gold, author Marguerite Sprague uncovers the original sources of information whenever possible, from the first mining claims to interviews with former Bodieites. Enhanced with numerous historic photographs and extracts from newspapers of that period, as well as by the reminiscences of former residents, the book offers a fascinating account of life in a Gold Rush boomtown.

Book Description
Residents of a mining camp in California have named their community "Body" after William Body, a smithy who deserted his family in New York, moved to California, located a mine, and perished in a blizzard. But citizens are tired of jokey references to the spelling of the name, and elders in the camp decide to change the town's name to "Bodie." To mark the occasion, they recover Body's remains and schedule a funeral and town rechristening on the Fourth of July. News of the grand event makes its way to New York and sets off a battle in Daniel Owen's household, a battle which becomes intense when Billie Owen discovers she's the sole offspring of William Body. A plucky gal with Dime-novel credentials, Billie rebels and heads west to honor her true father. Upon arriving in camp, Billie learns her father died from a radial fracture to the head. Within days, Billie's friend Rusty winds up at the end of a rope. Suddenly, there are killers on the loose and vigilantes in the streets. Can Billie discover the truth behind the deaths of her father and her friend in time?

Book Description
The Discovery of Witchcraft is an exposé of the early modern witchcraft. Originally published in 1584, the book was written against the belief in witches, to show that witchcraft did not exist. Part of its content exposed how feats of magic were done, and the book is often deemed the first textbook on conjuring. Moreover, the book contains a small section which describes how the charlatans were able to fool the public and why the prosecutions of the accused were unwarranted for and un-Christian. The author also provocatively held the Roman church responsible to the prosecutions. The book became highly popular as an exhaustive encyclopaedia of contemporary beliefs about witchcraft, spirits, alchemy, magic, and legerdemain. William Shakespeare also drew from his study of Scot's book hints for his picture of the witches in Macbeth, and Thomas Middleton in his play of The Witch likewise was indebted to this source.

Book Description
Grenville and the Lost Colony of Roanoke takes an authoritative look at how the English Nation first attempted to settle America - some thirty-three years before the Mayflower set sail. In the 1580s Sir Walter Raleigh ably assisted by his cousin Sir Richard Grenville set out to found an English Colony in America. After several voyages the colony was finally settled on the island of Roanoke, yet just three years later it had vanished and remains today, one of America's greatest mysteries. Now, in this new account, Andrew Thomas Powell re-investigates. Using eye-witness accounts from sources never previously linked, he provides one of the most extraordinary true stories in English and American history and concludes with the current quest to find out what really happened to them. Filled with new revelations and theories, and exposing some myths, this is the first modern attempt to use original documents to re-examine an extraordinary period in English History. Grenville and the Lost Colony of Roanoke takes an authoritative look at how the English Nation first attempted to settle America - some thirty-three years before the Mayflower set sail.
