Book Description
Side weirs are widely used to divert or discharge flows from reservoirs, rivers, artificial channels and sewers. The hydraulic behaviour of this type of weir is complex and difficult to predict accurately using simple methods and the diversity of applictions of side weirs has the potential to complicate guidance. This manual covers the fundamental hydraulic principles and discusses the practical design issues separately for each main strcuture type.

Book Description
The Clean Water Act, with its emphasis on storm water and sediment control in urban areas, has created a compelling need for information in small-catchment hydrology. Design Hydrology and Sedimentology for Small Catchments provides the basic information and techniques required for understanding and implementing design systems to control runoff, erosion, and sedimentation. It will be especially useful to those involved in urban and industrial planning anddevelopment, surface mining activities, storm water management, sediment control, and environmental management. This class-tested text, which presents many solved problems throughout as well as solutions at the end of each chapter, is suitable for undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education courses. In addition, practicing professionals will find it a valuable reference. Anderson/Woessner: APPLIED GROUNDWATER MODELING (1992) Shuirman/Slosson: FORENSIC ENGINEERING (1992) de Marsily: QUANTITATIVE HYDROGEOLOGY (1986) Selley: APPLIED SEDIMENTOLOGY, THIRD EDITION (1988) Huyakorn: COMPUTATIONAL METHODS IN SUBSURFACE FLOW (1986) Pinder: FINITE ELEMENT MODELING IN SURFACE AND SUBSURFACE HYDROLOGY (1977) Key Features * Covers major new improvements and state-of-the-art technologies in sediment control technology * Provides in-depth information on estimating the impact of land-use changes on runoff and flood flows, as well as on estimating erosion and sediment yield from small catchments * Presents superior coverage on design of flood and sediment detention ponds and design of runoff and sediment control measures

Book Description
This book presents key principles of the hydraulics of river basins, with a unique focus on the interplay between stream flows and sediment transport. Addressing a number of basic topics related to the hydraulics of river systems, above all it emphasizes applicative aspects in order to provide the reader with a solid grasp of river engineering. The understanding of the river hydraulics is essential for the assessment of optimum locations for the conservation of water resources and its structures. This book will be interesting to readers and researchers working in the specialized area of river hydraulics of Ganga basin, Narmada, Tapi, Godavari, and other basins of India. It consists of review on hydraulics of meandering river; hydraulic design of reservoir in permeable pavement; optimization of hydraulic design; hydraulic investigations to optimize the design of spillway and design of energy dissipater; and analysis of performance of orifice spillway using computational fluid dynaics

Book Description
In the context of water management, structures that measure the flow rate in open channels are used for a variety of purposes: (i) In hydrology, they measure the discharge from catchments; (ii) In irrigation, they measure and control the distribution of water at canal bifurcations and at off-take structures; (iii) In sanitary engineering, they measure the flow from urban areas and industries into the drainage system; (iv) In both irrigation and drainage, they can control the upstream water at a desired level. This thesis represents an attempt to place such flow measurements on a solid foundation by explaining the theory of water flow through 'long-throated flumes' and their hydraulically related 'broad-crested weirs'. On the basis of this theory, and on practical experience, these structures are recommended for use whenever the water surface in the channel at the measuring site can remain free. The thesis concludes with a design procedure that will facilitate the application of these structures. The idea to undertake research on discharge measurement structures was born upon my appointment as the first civil engineer with the International Institute for Land Reclamation and Improvement (ILRI). Because my recruiter, Ir. J.M. van Staveren, then Director of ILRI, had left the Institute before my arrival, and because I was the 'first of my kind' in an agricultural environment, I looked for contact and found - vii- support from: the late Prof. Ir. J. Nugteren, Prof. Ir.

Book Description
This book presents an overview of current research problems and advances in theoretical and applied aspects of environmental hydraulics. The rapid development of this branch of water studies in recent years has contributed to our fundamental understanding of processes in natural aquatic systems and helped provide solutions for civil engineering and water resources management. The book features comprehensively reviewed versions of invited lectures and regular presentations given at the 38th International School of Hydraulics, held May 21–24, 2019, in Łąck, Poland. With papers by leading international experts as well as young researchers from around the globe, it covers recent findings from laboratory and field studies, numerical modeling related to sediment and pollutant transport processes in rivers, fluvial morphodynamics, flow in vegetated channels and hydraulic structures in rivers and estuaries.
