The explanation of the formal duality of Kerdock and Preparata codes is one of the outstanding results in the field of applied algebra in the last few years. This result is related to the discovery of large sets of quad riphase sequences over Z4 whose correlation properties are better than those of the best binary sequences. Moreover, the correlation properties of sequences are closely related to difference properties of certain sets in (cyclic) groups. It is the purpose of this book to illustrate the connection between these three topics. Most articles grew out of lectures given at the NATO Ad vanced Study Institute on "Difference sets, sequences and their correlation properties". This workshop took place in Bad Windsheim (Germany) in August 1998. The editors thank the NATO Scientific Affairs Division for the generous support of this workshop. Without this support, the present collection of articles would not have been realized.

This volume contains the refereed proceedings of the 3rd International Conf- ence on Sequences and Their Applications (SETA 2004), held in Seoul, Korea during October 24–28, 2004. The previous two conferences, SETA 1998 and SETA 2001, were held in Singapore and Bergen, Norway, respectively. These conferences are motivated by the many widespread applications of sequences in modern communication systems. These applications include pseudorandom sequences in spread spectrum systems, code-division multiple-access, stream ciphers in cryptography and several connections to coding theory. The Technical Program Committee of SETA 2004 received 59 submitted - pers, many more than the submissions to previous SETA conferences. The C- mittee therefore had the di?cult task of selecting the 33 papers to be presented at the Conference in addition to four invited papers. In Hadamard Matrices and Their Applications, K. J. Horadam provides the first unified account of cocyclic Hadamard matrices and their applications in signal and data processing. This original work is based on the development of an algebraic link between Hadamard matrices and the cohomology of finite groups that was discovered fifteen years ago. The book translates physical applications into terms a pure mathematician will appreciate, and theoretical structures into ones an applied mathematician, computer scientist, or communications engineer can adapt and use. The first half of the book explains the state of our knowledge of Hadamard matrices and two important generalizations: matrices with group entries and multidimensional Hadamard arrays. It focuses on their applications in engineering and computer science, as signal transforms, spreading sequences, error-correcting codes, and cryptographic primitives. The book's second half presents the new results in cocyclic Hadamard matrices and their applications. Full expression of this theory has been realized only recently, in the Five-fold Constellation. This identifies cocyclic generalized Hadamard matrices with particular "stars" in four other areas of mathematics and engineering: group cohomology, incidence structures, combinatorics, and signal correlation. Pointing the way to possible new developments in a field ripe for further research, this book formulates and discusses ninety open questions.

Following an initiative of the late Hans Zassenhaus in 1965, the Departments of Mathematics at The Ohio State University and Denison University organize conferences in combinatorics, group theory, and ring theory. Between May 18-21, 2000, the 25th conference of this series was held. Usually, there are twenty to thirty invited 20-minute talks in each of the three main areas. However, at the 2000 meeting, the combinatorics part of the conference was extended, to honor the 65th birthday of Professor Dijen Ray-Chaudhuri. This volulme is the proceedings of this extension. Most of the papers are in coding theory and design theory, reflecting the major interest of Professor Ray-Chaudhuri, but there are articles on association schemes, algebraic graph theory, combinatorial geometry, and network flows as well. There are four surveys and seventeen research articles, and all of these went through a thorough refereeing process. The volume is primarily recommended for researchers and graduate students interested in new developments in coding theory and design theory.
