The Sexy Part of the Bible
Author: Kola Boof
Publisher: Akashic Books
ISBN: 1617750638
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 158
Book Description
From the author of Long Train to the Redeeming Sin, “the most jubilant celebration of black African beauty so far seen in the English language” (The Boston Globe). Following in the footsteps of her idols Alice Walker and Toni Morrison, Kola Boof asserts her own literary prowess with a chilling sociopolitical love story. Set in modern West Africa, Europe, and the United States, and featuring the kind of heroine readers rarely get to encounter in popular culture—beautiful charcoal-skinned Eternity, a spirited and diabolical young African hellcat whose life is stigmatized by a heart-stopping secret—The Sexy Part of the Bible is an erotically astute novel filled with mystery and adventure. Enveloped in the arms of a domineering Fela Kuti–type rap star and revolutionary named Sea Horse Twee, Eternity finds herself miraculously surviving several African rebellions—and in the interim, she powerfully unmasks the science of cloning, which becomes a powerful metaphor in the story. “From the malignant forces of racism and sexism to corruption and cloning, Boof catwalks her way through a shrewdly satirical, erotic, and suspenseful novel of defiance.” —Booklist “Boof has written a novel with the histrionics of daytime drama, boldly sensuous and savvy about the dangers of post-colonial politics.” —Time Out Chicago “Boof spins surrealism, sci-fi, racial politics, feminism, religious debate, postcolonial theory, and more into a thought-provoking, suspenseful novel that manages to keep intriguing characters afloat in a roiling sea of crazy rhetoric.” —Publishers Weekly

Feminists Need Dick Too!
Author: Kola Boof
Publisher: Underground Unreleased
ISBN: 9781513677873
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 280
Book Description
Critically acclaimed yet embattled novelist KOLA BOOF ("The Sexy Part of the Bible", "Diary of a Lost Girl", "Flesh and the Devil") tells us how she really feels in this brutally honest deeply personal Black Girl sex memoir that bravely exposes the differences between African Feminism, Black Womanism and White American Feminism. Ultimately the book is a manifesto appealing to all women of any race, any sexuality and even includes legitimate representation of Transwomen. Ms. Boof starts with the question: "What if I had a daughter? What would I tell her about being a Woman and surviving in this world?" After being married to two millionaires (one Black, one White) and dating quite the list of male celebrities (Boof tries to downplay her history with Osama Bin Laden, however); Kola Boof definitely sounds like an expert on these matters and is one of the most entertaining wisdom-sharing public figures in literature today. It's a shame that corporate smear campaigns targeted at Boof after the Bin Laden scandal, Xenophobia and Ms. Boof's personal beef with U.S. White Media has relegated her to being something of an underground sensation. Truly, her level of talent and intellect deserves more attention. It's impossible to agree with everything Boof writes here. I have a few bones to pick with her. But her penchant for making us talk about topics we ordinarily wouldn't dare debate in public has become legendary. "Feminists Need Dick Too!" Strikes me as both the perfect beach read for young thinking women and confirmation for much older Black women that they were right about certain things all along. Men who are secure within themselves will love and enjoy the book as well.

Len's mother Miss Aggy, the girls he first loves, and the woman he eventually marries, many destinies are entwined with Len's. What Is the What
Author: Dave Eggers
Publisher: Vintage Canada
ISBN: 0307371379
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 563
Book Description
What Is the What is the story of Valentino Achak Deng, a refugee in war-ravaged southern Sudan who flees from his village in the mid-1980s and becomes one of the so-called Lost Boys. Valentino’s travels bring him in contact with enemy soldiers, with liberation rebels, with hyenas and lions, with disease and starvation, and with deadly murahaleen (militias on horseback)–the same sort who currently terrorize Darfur. Eventually Deng is resettled in the United States with almost 4000 other young Sudanese men, and a very different struggle begins. Based closely on true experiences, What Is the What is heartbreaking and arresting, filled with adventure, suspense, tragedy, and, finally, triumph.

The Killing of Osama Bin Laden
Author: Seymour M Hersh
Publisher: Verso Books
ISBN: 1784784389
Category : Political Science
Languages : en
Pages : 115
Book Description
Electrifying investigation of White House lies about the assassination of Osama bin Laden In 2011, an elite group of US Navy SEALS stormed an enclosure in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad and killed Osama bin Laden, the man the United States had begun chasing before the devastating attacks of 9/11. The news did much to boost President Obama’s first term and played a major part in his reelection victory of the following year. But much of the story of that night, as presented to the world, was incomplete, or a lie. The evidence of what actually went on remains hidden. At the same time, the full story of the United States’ involvement in the Syrian civil war has been kept behind a diplomatic curtain, concealed by doublespeak. It is a policy of obfuscation that has compelled the White House to turn a blind eye to Turkey’s involvement in supporting ISIS and its predecessors in Syria. This investigation, which began as a series of essays in the London Review of Books, has ignited a firestorm of controversy in the world media. In his introduction, Hersh asks what will be the legacy of Obama’s time in office. Was it an era of “change we can believe in” or a season of lies and compromises that continued George W. Bush’s misconceived War on Terror? How did he lose the confidence of the general in charge of America’s forces who acted in direct contradiction to the White House? What else do we not know?.
