Book Description
Diagnostic Electron Microscopy of Tumors, Second Edition is a guide on how to employ electron microscopy techniques in making evaluation on tumor biopsies. This edition aims to serve as a source of information, references, and electron micrographs for the practicing electron microscopists. This book is divided into five parts; each of which tackles a different topic. Part 1 discusses the collection of specimen, and Part 2 talks about the assessment of tumors' behavior and growth. Ultrastructural analysis of diagnostic problems is covered in Part 3; the significance of some ultrastructural features in tumors is explained in Parts 4 and 5. This text is recommended for those who wish to examine tumor biopsies with an electron microscope as well as those who want to become more conversant with such matters, so that they can understand and evaluate electron micrographs and reports. This book will be valuable to physicians, surgeons, histopathologists, and pathology residents.

Diagnostic Electron Microscopy
Author: Richard G. Dickersin
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387218521
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 1090
Book Description
This text atlas, now in its second edition, presents in simplest form the basic diagnostic criteria used by the electron microscopist in studying neoplasms and other diseases encountered in the routine practice of pathology. Every field of electron microscopy is covered and low magnification plates are juxtaposed with higher magnifications to illustrate diagnostic features. The largest section of the book is devoted to neoplasms as this is the area in which most diagnostic problems occur. Renal glomerular disease is another important category in which ultrastructural study may be critical in diagnosis; infectious diseases, especially those of viral, protozoan, and unusual bacterial etiologies, are a third area in which electron microscopy may be used to establish or susbstantiate a diagnosis. All of these areas are comprehensively covered with concise, readable text and more than 800 first-quality images. This book is the preeminent reference for pathologists needing current information on the role of ultrastructure in diagnostic pathology.

Renal Pathology in Biopsy
Author: H.U. Zollinger
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642667317
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 1342
Book Description
Vor die Therapie setzten die Gotter die Diagnose. Otto NiigeJi Renal biopsy has decisively enriched renal diagnostics. Kidney diseases may be monitored during their entire course, and new techniques - such as immunofluorescence and electron microscopy - may be systematically applied, resulting in novel insights into the morphogenesis, pathogenesis, and etiology of kidney lesions. These insights, in turn, have served as new starting points, in the spirit of the quotation above, for the institution of causal therapy by the clinician. This work presents our findings based on 20 years of experience in evaluating renal biopsies. As of the end of 1974, our computer-supported, systematic clinical, morphologic, and follow-up evaluation of case material consisted of over 2000 biopsies, including 679 examined by electron microscopy and 400 by immunofluorescence microscopy. The subsequent 500 biopsies (400 studied by electron microscopy and 300 by immunofluorescence) were con sidered qualitatively only. In order to enhance qualitative findings with quantitative data, it was necessary to devise new methods for quantifying electron-microscopic findings. Additionally, we attempted to correlate cyto logic and immunofluorescent observations to integrate the isolated findings of electron microscopy into a vital cytologic pattern of reactions. We also attempted to evaluate the almost overwhelming flood of publications, especially those appearing within the last 10 years. The idea for this book was conceived a decade ago. At that time, however, our own experience in renal biopsy diagnostics seemed insufficient to sup port such a major undertaking.

Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma
Author: Pierre Busson
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461459478
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 221
Book Description
This volume intends to contribute to “translational medicine and biology”. By this, we mean a bi-directional process whose aim is to develop knowledge from basic science towards diagnostic and therapeutic applications and reciprocally to raise new questions for basic scientists. One general requirement for translational research is to establish a multidisciplinary knowledge base shared by the actors of various specialties. This is precisely the aim of the 12 chapters of this book. It will be useful for scientists, including PhD students, who want to become more familiar with the main concepts of NPC pathology, medical imaging and current therapeutics. Conversely, medical doctors who want to update their knowledge of NPC biology will benefit from chapters on viral and cellular oncogenesis and various aspects of host-tumor interactions.

Modern Soft Tissue Pathology
Author: Markku Miettinen
Publisher: Cambridge University Press
ISBN: 1139489402
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 1117
Book Description
This book comprehensively covers modern soft tissue pathology and includes both tumors and non-neoplastic entities. Soft tissues make up a large bulk of the human body, and they are susceptible to a wide range of diseases. Many soft-tissue tumors are biologically very aggressive, and the chance of them metastasizing to vital organs is quite high. In recent years, the outlook for soft-tissue cancers has brightened dramatically due to the increased accuracy of the pathologist's tools. All methods of diagnosis are covered here, with an emphasis on the newest immunoassays and other genetic, molecular, and immunologic diagnostic modalities. This book's systematic description of benign and malignant primary soft tissue tumors with didactic, comprehensive panels of illustrations allows the reader to formulate a complete understanding of the morphology of tumor entities at one glance. The book covers both the most common tumor entities and more unusual diseases using more than 1,500 color images, making it a resource for beginning and senior pathologists.
