Pour reproduire des dessins complexes composés de figures géométriques simples emboîtées, les enfants, dès l'âge de quatre ans, adoptent un procédé consistant à tracer les différentes formes élémentaires de la périphérie vers le centre. En raison de l'émergence, la prévalence et la stabilisation précoces de ce mode d'organisation de l'exécution au cours du développement, on parle de "Principe de l'Exécution Centripète" (PEC). La présente recherche a pour objet de déterminer, au cours du développement (chez l'enfant de 5 à 10 ans), le rôle du contenu et du format des représentations élaborées dans la mise en oeuvre de PEC. Les enfants étaient invités à exécuter leurs dessins par le tracé ou la superposition des formes élémentaires dans une tâche de copie, de rappel (requérant la mémorisation des informations encodées) ou/et de coordination d'informations locales (production des dessins-cibles à partir de deux images lacunaires). Nous formulons l'hypothèse générale selon laquelle le PEC repose sur une opération de planification de l'action s'appuyant sur une intégration cohésive des informations (construction de représentations globales des dessins), conditionnée conjointement par le contenu et le format des représentations élaborées. Les résultats indiquent que l'adoption du PEC relève d'un traitement holistique des données, lié à une appréhension perceptive globale des stimuli explorés (copie) ou à une intégration cohésive des données (rappel et coordination d'informations locales). Elle dépendrait également du format des représentations (imágé, verbal / propositionnel, moteur / tactilo-kinesthésique) pouvant être exploitées efficacement au cours du développement.
