Book Description
The D0 detector underwent a major upgrade to maximize its ability to fully exploit Run II at the Fermilab Tevatron, the world's highest energy collider. The upgrade included a completely new central tracking system with an outer scintillating fiber tracker and an inner silicon vertex detector all within a 2T superconducting solenoid. This thesis describes the development of high level trigger algorithms including vertexing, impact parameter significance and invariant mass, that utilize tracks from these detectors. One of the main physics goals of Run II is the observation of Bs oscillations. This measurement, which cannot be performed at the B factories, will significantly constrain the ''unitarity triangle'' associated with Cp violation and so probe the Standard Model of particle physics. Furthermore this is an interesting measurement as the study of mixing in meson systems has a long history for revealing new physics. The second part of this thesis presents a study of the hadronic decay Bs → Ds?. This important mode provides the best proper time resolution for Bs mixing and is reconstructed for the first time at D0. Projections on the sensitivity to Bs oscillations are then presented.

Book Description
Silicon Vertex tracks are of fundamental importance for reconstructing B meson decays at a hadron collider. The upgraded CDF detector will deploy an online Silicon Vertex Tracker in the level 2 trigger. We have studied how this new device exploits the Tevatron large B meson production to select hadronic B decays fundamental for measuring CP violation and B{sub s} mixing.

Book Description
Presented are preliminary results from the BABAR Collaboration on charm physics, including limits on D[sup 0] mixing from the ratio of lifetimes from K[sup -][pi][sup+], K[sup+]K[sup -], and[pi][sup+][pi][sup -] final states (using 47.8 fb[sup -1] of data) and branching ratio, and Dalitz amplitude analyses of the decays D[sup 0][yields] K[sup 0]K[sup -][pi][sup+], [bar K][sup 0]K[sup+][pi][sup -], and[bar K][sup 0]K[sup+]K[sup -] (using 22 fb[sup -1] of data). The status of direct measurements of D[sup 0] mixing using wrong-sign D[sup 0][yields] K[sup+][pi][sup -] decays is also discussed.

Book Description
We set a preliminary 95% C.L. exclusion on the oscillation frequency of B{sub s}° - {bar B}{sub s}° mixing using a sample of 400,000 hadronic Z° decays collected by the SLD experiment at the SLC during the 1996-98 run. Three analyses are presented in this paper. The first analysis partially reconstructs the B{sub s}° by combining a fully reconstructed D{sub s} with the remaining charged B decay tracks. The second analysis selects a sample of events with a partially reconstructed charm vertex and a lepton track. The third analysis reconstructs b-hadrons topologically and exploits the b 2!c cascade charge structure to determine the flavor of the b-hadron at decay. All three analyses take advantage of the large forward-backward asymmetry of the polarized Z° 2!b{bar b} decays and information in the hemisphere opposite to the reconstructed B vertex to determine the b-hadron flavor at production. The results of the three analyses are combined to exclude the following values of the B{sub s}° - {bar B}{sub s}° oscillation frequency: [Delta]m{sub s}

Book Description
The collection of a large number of B hadron decays to hadronic final states at the CDF II detector is possible due to the presence of a trigger that selects events based on track impact parameters. However, the nature of the selection requirements of the trigger introduces a large bias in the observed proper decay time distribution. A lifetime measurement must correct for this bias and the conventional approach has been to use a Monte Carlo simulation. The leading sources of systematic uncertainty in the conventional approach are due to differences between the data and the Monte Carlo simulation. In this paper they present an analytic method for bias correction without using simulation, thereby removing any uncertainty between data and simulation. This method is presented in the form of a measurement of the lifetime of the B− using the mode B− → D°[pi]−. The B− lifetime is measured as [tau]{sub B{sup -}} = 1.663 ± 0.023 ± 0.015 ps, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This new method results in a smaller systematic uncertainty in comparison to methods that use simulation to correct for the trigger bias.
